Hi

Hey all,
Am a bit nervous of my fast coming surgery and very worried how it will affect my libido and the feel of sex. Have trawled the Internet for info and found so little so really hoping for some real stories. I suffer from chronic abdo pain, worse after sex so I am having my cervix and uterus removed but keeping my ovaries. Please can anyone tell me if sex is still as enjoyable post op and if the desire is still as strong? I am marrying my Man next year and this really worries me, he says it doesn't matter as my being pain free is the most important thing, but it matters to me.

Re: Hi

Everyone is different in their response to sex after surgery - after restrictions are lifted, of course. Some women say it is better, some say worse. Some women who were in pain before surgery say it is better after surgery because the pain is gone.

For me, I had no pain with sex before surgery. Post-surgery, I need lubrication each time even though I use ERT (I am 46). The orgasms occur more frequently, but are not as intense. Go figure. I do miss the muscle contraction as I lost everything (I had a TAH BSO). My libido is not as strong post-surgery, but I am only about 6 months post-op and still healing.

((((Hugs))))

Re: Hi

Thanks 😄 I feel a bit silly being so worried about this bit of it all, the op is going to take so much pain away , and nothing else about it worries me.

Re: Hi

You are not being silly - your concerns are your concerns, and they are appropriate for you. This is a scary and major decision! I understand! Even though your logical self knows that this is good, and your pain will go away, your emotional side still needs to express herself. Let her. This site is about support as well as information. Many women on this site were where you are now. We will help you through this, both pre-op and post-op.

Hugs to you.....

Re: Hi

I am having my hysterectomy the 10th, as well. I had my husband in the doctor office with me, asking about sex (to the doctor) From what I've heard, that women who had bleeding or any menstrual problems often have a more carefree and happy sex life, after their surgery, than before.

I am hoping this is the case for me, as well. I am not having major problems, but my cycles have been messed up for many years (horrible and heavy periods, 30-43 day cycles) and PCOS, though I have a very healthy sex life (or so my husband says lol) I am really hoping to retain and even gain libido.

I wish you much luck and a fast recovery!

Re: Hi

I am 8 weeks post op and had the same procedure as you. I had the same concerns, but I am pleased to tell you, it is better than before. I think the desire is stronger now, maybe due to the fact that I know its not going to be painful and no bleeding afterwards. No regrets and best of luck. Just listen to the Dr orders, I did things before being checked and I am now having a delay in my healing, but I had to know if it all still "worked" and that I could still feel like a woman again. Best of luck to you

Wow so we will be under the knife on the same day. I am so glad I found this site as I am feeling much more positive. My bf and I have a very healthy sex life, but he has been so worried about hurting me it has not been as ''free'' and I am hoping this op will stop that worry without stealing the drive for me.
Best of luck for Thursday xxx

Oh thank you 😄 may I ask, how long did you need to rest for post op? I keep reading go for short walks and take things easy, but what is a short walk? My bf is staying home for a week and a bit to look after me and then I'm hoping to whizz through recovery and get back to normal. Lots of women on here have said they overdid it and I think that's cos we are women and life for us is non stop lol

I was up the next morning. My.husband took about a week off as well. I.would walk about 15 minutes at a time.or so. I.felt great and took pain meds minimally, I think it honestly depends on how quickly your body heals. Just listen to your dr.
