Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

The title pretty much said it all.
I'm wondering if anyone has thought of writing a letter to your family, in case something happens during the surgery (I know it's rare)

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

I didn't write letters to my family, but I did think about any guidance I would want for a memorial serivice. I also was going to give my will executor my account info. Two friends had recently lost parents, so the details of arrangements were on my mind. I also talked to my minister before going in. The good news is that none of that was needed. If it would help you feel more centered and prepared, then write the letters. Surgery can be definitely be an anxiety-producing experience!

YEP! Still thinking about it, too.

I keep thinking "How corny is that?", but then what if ....

I thought about it. But then the family got sick the week before my surgery and time ran out. Thankfully it wasn't necessary for me.

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

Hi! I joined up a year ago but wound up having a D&C with Ablation. All was well until 2 months ago when I began having serious cramping. After codeine and a few doctor visits, I'm schedule for Dec 15 for a vaginal hysterectomy. I'm amazed I remember my userid and password! I'm going to explore this website 8-)

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

my family knows,I have lost to many people in my life, so when I talk to anyone ,by phone or in person I ALWAYS tell them I love them, Yup its corny, but you never know
I have total confidence in the Dr, I do have to bring my living will with me but thats ok too.
I could write letter's to my grandaughters, the youngest is 3 1/2 .. will have to think about that one

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

Hi grandmallie, yes I to thought about it, and I did leave a note under each of my children's pillows telling them I loved them, and a note for my husband in his drawers telling him he was a great hubby and how much I loved him. Sounds corny I know, but I just needed them to know I loved them if something happened. As it was, my heart stopped twice under anesthetic, this was from dr tugging on uterus, which caused an autonomic reaction to the heart, my heart was restarted with medication, and no damage ocurrred, but this was scary to hear once I had come out of it. My op was 2/11/11, I was in hosp 3 nights, and am doing very well now. Minimal pain, everything working as it should, taking it easy and enjoying life. I wish you well. Aussie lady.

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

I did write that letter!!

My husband was at work and the kids at school. I sat and cried imagining what it would be like here without ME!! As I'm now stuck in bed and unable to do anything, I see that life would technically go on and everyone would still function!! Lol..... (the kitchen is NOT as clean, but ya know......)

Anyway, I wrote an amazing letter to my family and hid it in a place where they would only find it if something happened and they were cleaning out my things.

I saved it and plan on keeping it in our safe, sealed. Life is funny, and we just never know when our time will come.

Write the letter!! I found peace the morning of my procedure knowing that the last thing they would hear from me is, "I love you!!"

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

I've thought about it. I need to update my will and make sure all my accounts are in order. I'm not afraid of dying but I'm not ready to go yet. I'm very afraid of surgery. I decided it would bring me peace if I had everything in order just in case.

Re: Has anyone thought of writing letters to family (Just in case?)

Yep! Thought about it then I too ran out of time. I ended up staying up most of the night prior to the surgery (couldn't sleep but hey, there will be lots of sleep in recovery lol). I too ended up writing love notes to each family member and hid them in places I knew they would eventually go (ie DH planner) to tell them how much I love them.
