Add Back therapy with Lupron

I am starting Lupron and am very apprehensive. Not worried about the hot flashes ad mood swings, but my concern is the bone and joint pain, the hair loss, possible teeth falling out, and the libido loss...very concerned about that. Some people have said the joint pain is so severe they are literally on crutches... I am terrified. Does the Add Back help to alleviate any of these symptoms?? I dont know whether to accept the shots or refuse them. Any info is appreciated!

Re: Add Back therapy with Lupron

Any medication has its risks. I'm not sure what the Add Back is, but I've had three Lupron 11.25 shots since March 2009 and I had only one hot flash after the second shot and I didn't find any discernable difference in my mood swings (mine can be pretty severe without any help). I was fine after the first shot but after the second and now with the third shot I do have pain in just my left hip.

Over all, all it has done is to help alleviate (not totally stop) my severe bleeding. I have had some hair loss (it may also be related to my thyroid) but no teeth falling out (haven't heard of that side effect before). As for my libido? Well, definately not loss, that's for sure.

Everyone is different.

Re: Add Back therapy with Lupron

The add-back helped a ton. It made the joint pain tolerable (Ibuprofen was all I needed). It also helped with the hot flashes and mood swings. Lupron is a tough drug to take, but I hope it helps you

Re: Add Back therapy with Lupron

I'm on Zoladex injections (similar to Lupron) and take an add-back (Prempro). Originally my doc told me to only take the add-back if the side effects became unbearable - OR if I had any bone pain at all. The side effects were bearable but at week 3 I got significant bone pain in my leg and hip and immediately started taking the Prempro, everyday.

Since then, I've had almost no side effects to speak of. I've had 3 shots and will probably need 6 to 8 before surgery is possible.
