Internal Stitches Visible on the Outside?

I had a TAH on Oct 17, for the abdominal incission they used "super glue" all appears to be healing well. Yesterday I noticed a hard plastic staple/stictch?? appears to be coming out of the wound.
There is no bleeding, or ozzing or anything to indicate infection. There is no pain there. My followup appointment isn't until 11/21.

It doesn't bother me, but my boyfriend is freakedout a bit by it. Anyone have this experience? Any reason to be concerned?

Re: Internal Stitches Visible on the Outside?

Hi LakeBreeze, I had that on each end of my incision. One side was out at a check-up; my DR wasn't concerned, she said to wait until it falls off on its own. So when the other side popped out I wasn't worried. A relative told me those are the knots. Does make sense, but I forgot to ask the DR to confirm.

Re: Internal Stitches Visible on the Outside?

I had this happen, too. My laparoscopic incisions had no visible stitches, they were all under the skin. About a week ago I felt a hard little thing poking out of there. My admitting nurse had told me when she had her hysterectomy the stitches pushed their way out, so I wasn't alarmed by it. She said she just let hers come all the way out on it's own. So that's what I did. And last night, it just fell out, it was about 3/8 of an inch long. So, don't worry!

Re: Internal Stitches Visible on the Outside?

I am 5 week. I had those plastic sticker on my incision. My dr told me the same to wait until it falls on its own, but I took them off three days ago because some stickers started pop out, and then I used vitamin E , but felt those two days litter bit pinch. I did not have those pinchs on those area before. Did I take it off so early? Or I walked too much?

Re: Internal Stitches Visible on the Outside?

Week 8 and the internal/external stitch finally came out. I noticed it had split in two and had two ends instead of being a stitch. I grabbed one end gave a very light pull and it slid out. Kind of like a large sliver. There was no pain or bleeding or anything. The other half is still in there and I can see it, but it's broken off at the skin so I cant get a hold of it. I"m guessing it will come out on it's own eventually.
