Questions about different kinds of gas

Having DaVinci LAVH/BSO in 8 days.

I've read about pain from gas...Dr says he will remove all the CO2. Hope so! How do they do that? So many women here get pain in shoulders.

Women also seem to get gas in digestive system. Any way to avoid that? Does it always happen? I'll have DH bring Gas X to hosp

Re: Questions about different kinds of gas

Hi

From what I've seen, they just sort of maneuver & compress the abdomen to remove the gas via the same access as the trocar. You surgeon may share a better explanation on the gas situations.

Check with your doc on the Gas X. I used the Gas X when I was home, but my hospital (as do most) restricted self administration of any meds while an inpatient (even over the counter meds.) The doctor ordered some simethicone for me & told me to avoid straws.

Walking helped both gas issues for me.

Wishing you an uneventful surgery and a smooth recovery. Hope you feel much better, very soon.

Re: Questions about different kinds of gas

There is no way to completely remove all of it so the rest is up to you to work out. The gas x does help but I find that if you can tolerate it getting on your hands and knees with your belly supported by a pillow and butt up helps work it out also. I know, not the most appealing method but it does work. Past surgeries this has been my go to method. Good luck!

Re: Questions about different kinds of gas

I don't think they can remove all of it. They gave me something in the hospital for it and my DH bought me gas X when I got hm. The two things that worked for me were walking and drinking plenty of water at room temperature. I did suffer with pain near my shoulder area but with each day it gets better and better. Wishing you a successful surgery and speedy recovery!
