Surgery scheduled

Good afternoon ladies!

I finally have my surgery scheduled. On 12/19/11 I will have a robotic assisted TAH BSO. I'm not looking forward to it but it has to be done. Sept 3, 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently tested positive for BRCA 2. I had a bilateral mastectomy on 10/12/10. In a 10 month period I had 4 surgeries and 4 rounds of chemo.

I'm a little nervous to have another surgery this year but I guess it will be okay.

I'm hoping to be able to go back to work at 2 weeks but I have had a problem with tiredness after all of these surgeries. Guess I'll wait and see....

Any thoughts, advice or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated.

Re: Surgery scheduled

Sounds like your year has been pretty eventful and stressful already, but I can totally understand wanting to get this over with, too. Best wishes to you.

TAH is abdominal surgery and Dvh is the robotic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (da Vinci). Da Vinci has a faster recovery time and you may be ready for work after 2 weeks, but then again, maybe not.

If you have abdominal surgery you will not be ready for work after 2 weeks - you would be looking at 4-6 weeks minimum.

Whatever the case, don't push it or you may slow your recovery and that would not be a good thing. It's ok to be tired - they are yanking out part of your insides and tugging on others.

Take care of yourself first - that's important. (((HUGS)))

Re: Surgery scheduled

I'm also BRCA2 positive- having a davinchi with Bso tomorrow morning. Scheduled January 5 for bilateral skin sparing mastectomy / expanders. I don't have breast cancer but there's a big possibility of ovarian cancer as I have a cyst on my left overy - will biopsy it during surgery. I will also be having at least 3 surgeries this year. Hugs to you you will do fine!
