Weight gain after surgery

Hi Everyone,

I just left the castle yesterday after a LAVH/BSO. I have gained 4 pounds out of the hospital. Don't quite understand because all but one meal was liquid. Thoughts on this. Maybe it shouldn't bother me, but it does
Hugs to all,

Is it possible that you have not been able to have a bm and that is why you have gained a little? I know that just in the last few days have I been able to have productive bm's and don't feel so loaded down with weight. Don't fret...it will come back off. Right now worry about healing and feeling good!

Best Wishes,

Weight gain after surgery

My weight was up 3-4 pounds when I came home from the hospital...weighed myself right before I went in and almost as soon as I got home. Two days later it was back to normal, next day it was up a pound, then down two, etc...Right now..at 17 days it is exactly where it was when I went in, but everyone keeps telling me that I look like I am losing weight.....
Was thinking maybe it was some water weight from the IVs and drinking a lot and some from bowel adjustments......

Laura - Don't fret...you just spent time in hospital with IV hooked up...could be water weight

My goodness you just got back from the surgery. Don't weigh yourself until a week or so. I was full of fluid when I got home. Right now--I've lost 5 pounds since my surgery (and I ate Thanksgiving dinner).

Weight gain after surgery

Laura, I can understand why that would bother you. I think I gained about 9 lb. after my surgery. It seems like, for me, once I got up and back to normal activities when I was released by my doc that helped alot. My idea on why is inactivity, water weight or could be swelling too. I still have a little to lose, but I'm still working on it!

It will get better. This too shall pass (I keep telling myself that!)

Hi again everyone,
Thanks for the posts

I guess it could be all those things you ladies are talking about. No, I haven't had a BM since Tuesday morning, so I am sure that is part of it. As well as fluid gain. I am not focusing on it, but it is kinda hard to see after I have worked hard to keep my weight normal. I think you ladies are right..it will most likely go away soon
Thanks for your support!

Weight gain after surgery

Hi Laura

I gained 2 or so pounds after my hyst and within a few more days lost 5 and then ultimately 10 lbs. I have also lost 2 more

I think you need to give yourself some time away from the scales and you may be pleasantly surprised in awhile

Weight gain after surgery

Hi Princess Laura!!

I came home from the castle a few pounds heavier than when I went in also....and had gained between 5-7 pounds the month before my surgery I suspect from the extra baggage of an enlarged uterus, etc. and not much activity for a few months. I thought I'd come home and jump onto the scale and see I'd lost all the weight I'd gained pre-op!!!

Now....well, I'm happy to report I have lost 9 pounds and am hovering at 10 pounds total lost since 12/3!! and, this is without any form of exercise (my short walks through the house don't count)

I haven't tried on any of my slacks or jeans yet...not ready! Besides being comfy in my sweats and jammies is perfect for right now and when I do go out, I wear sweats or drawstring pants.

I'm really looking forward to becoming active as I was just a 1 1/2 year ago...and working out again. But, I'm taking this time for my body to recover and heal and being patient. I
understand your frustration ~ I hope you feel better soon!
