Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

Thanks Linda

I already have osteopenia - it was diagnosed about 5 years ago, so I'm on a calcium supplement - all courtesy of long term type 1 diabetes. Unfortunately, also due to the diabetes, most weight-bearing exercises are very difficult for me, but I do have a gentle routine devised by a chronic pain clinic (I have 4 bulging, inoperable, disks) a few years ago. I see so many specialists it's insane... but it means everything gets monitored closely!

Thanks again,

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

Tomorrow will be my 6 week post surgery. I am 53 years old and have been experiencing perimenopause since I don't know when. I haven't had a period since May which was very light(really wouldn't even call it a period). Two days before my surgery I had an extremely heavy one with the terrible cramping, back pain, the whole experience which I hadn't had since several years ago. It was bizarre. Have had no hot flashes, sweats, mood swings, etc, even though I was going through a separation/divorce. Post op, we are reconcilling and my surgery couldn't have gone any better. So I am hopeful that I was "far" enough in I won't have to bother. Because I always have had terrible pms, bleeding profusely, etc. my primary care recommend taking low doses of Prozac (20 mg) two years ago. Kept the night sweats, hot flashes and sleeplessness away. I asked my gyn if I should continue taking them and he said unless and until I needed hormones continue taking it. I feel better than I have in years and am so grateful for the surgery! Good Luck!

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

I am 51, I think Iwas perimenopausal, but was on bc pills forever, until dx with hyperplasia with atypia. Had tah, and removal of remaining ovary 11/14/2011. No hot flashes, but dryness of eyes and feminine tissues (thanks for tip on optiva for eyes). Since symptoms are not severe, will probably not take replacement hormones. I think yoga is helpful, not only for exercise, but for mental, mind body issues. Meditation is also good, as are breathing exercises.

I will be out of work for six weeks, and although I have a desk job, it is mentally stressful, and I am taking this time to spend my energy on healing my body and my mind from this surgery.

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

torifrog - hooray for you girl that you are managing. I had surgery two weeks ago - was also only peri-m before surgery. Day two for me, the hot flashes came on with a vengeance, by day 7, I was cryiing for no reason (very much not me) and I still thought I could "play through" the issues. Day 10 - massive migraine, vomiting, shaking, crying and I landed back in the castle for three days recovering. First night in the castle they put a climera estrogen patch on my buns and like surfer, I may never ever ever take it off again. Symptoms gone and I feel great again. I hope and pray this does NOT happen to you, but wanted to give you a warning as I believe I waited too long and could have avoided my "crisis" if I had complained as my symptoms started to escalate. I wished so much to be one to go "naturally", but my body says no way. Major hugs to you sister.

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

Thanks Ms Doodle

It's been raining here the last few days so the temp has come down a bit - to maybe 70F.. and the hot flushes are less frequent than even two days ago - still no other symptoms.. so still playing it by ear.

I'm so sorry you had such a setback, but so very glad that you were given something that's helped you so much and so quickly

Hang in there, girlfriend!

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

It's 7am on day 35 post op today. Last night I learned what night sweats are - and they are very unpleasant! Yesterday the flushes were frequent despite it raining half the day. I need to see my GO in a few days for a prescription refill, so I might discuss with him potential herbal supplements that might help, as I'm exhausted this morning after last night's "fun". Off to do some research!

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

hi.....Im 55 yrs old and have been in perimenopause for several yrs. I have had 2 DNC in the last 2 1/2 yrs with multiple fibroids. In the last year Ive been experincing hot flashes..mood swings & my anixiety attachs returned. On my last DNC a biospy was done (showed no cancer). I still feel when I ovulate (with pain) and then the severe cramping in the uterus.
It was decieded between my doctor & me to have a complete hysterectomy.
Im anxious about being thrown into memepause, but I could not continue the way I was going.
My surgery date is 4-4-12

My family ( husband) says at times Im a little crazy.

Re: Hysterectomy while in perimenopause

Good luck to you Christy!

Perimenopause (for me anyway) was awful, and full on menopause was worse. I was going to go the "natural" route but ended up going with estrogen and it's the best decision I have made to date. No more mood swings, no more anxiety, no more hot flashes!!
Best part of the hysterectomy--no more heavy periods and no more pain when ovulating (or from cysts).
