surgery dec 5th

I'm 33 and will have my surgery on December 5th because I have complex hyperplasia with atypia. My doctor recommends the hysterectomy because of my family history. My grandmother had breast cancer (17 year survivor) and my mom was just diagnosed in July with stage 3 breast cancer. My aunt also just found out she has overian cancer I do not have all the details on her because we just found out =( my doctor wants me to keep my overiers because of my age and doesn't want to put me into early menapause however with my personal history of cysts on my overies and the cancer in my family I have decided or at least im about 90% decided to have them removed. I will not take homones because my grandmothers doctors believe that could have been the cause of her cancer? I am looking for natural ways to manage my hormones and menapause....any suggestions?

Re: surgery dec 5th

Glad you found us and I hope we can help! You have some difficult decisions to make, I'm sorry you've been put in this position.

First I would suggest you get a second opinion if you haven't had one.
Hysterectomy is major surgery and you need to be aware of all you options.

Having your ovaries removed at such a young age can have an impact on your heart, bones and general well being particularly if you don't want to take HRT. It should be considered very carefully--it's not just about hot flashes. Please talk to your DR and do your research before you decide. I haven't been able to find any reliable studies that show HRT causes breast cancer in fact there is evidence that some HRT helps prevent some types of breast cancer. It's very confusing.

Your history and family history does make this decision even more difficult, all the more reason for a second opinion and a long talk with your DR.

Please keep asking questions and keep us posted.
