getting surgery date tomorrow-new member with lots of questions

sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum. I've had endo since I was a teen, I'm now 41. I've had more laproscopic procedures than I can remember, d/c's also. Apx in 2006 I had an ablation as I was bleeding SO MUCH, severe pain all my life. Lots of fibroids too, since ablation, been doing great until apx 6-8 months ago. Began with cramping/pain esp when lying down at night in bed-wierd I thought. Then I started occasionallly spotting, then bleeding for past 6 months-no pattern to it, and also bad pain in lower left and way lower middle, like almost below my uterus in the bladder, but urine always fine. Just never felt like this even with the years i had my cycle. Went for yearly this past friday, and today for transvaginal ultrasound. He told me, which I knew, I need the hysterectomy. I knew this two years ago but I was too scared. I have no lining still, so it didn't grow back, that is good, and bad? I have the endo in my muscle tissue and a suspicious polyp in my uterus that was not there 12 months ago-he said it is def not scar tissue as that would of developed within one year post op ablation and that has been apx 5 years now and never showed up in my yearly ultrasounds. I also have fibroids that cause a lot of pain on my left ovary. So, hoping for davinci method, but he said he wont know until he looks inside, but hoping to keep my cervix and right ovary. Not sure what I feel-should get date tomorrow.

Re: getting surgery date tomorrow-new member with lots of questions

I am sorry you are facing this. I would be asking a lot of questions and getting another opinion. To begin with, a hysterectomy does not fix or cure endometriosis. It is a very sneaky disease and they have found so much more about it. I had a hyst because of endo and it did not cure it. I have all kinds of problems since then. I wish to heck I had gotten more opinions. I don't know if it would have changed my decision. I am not sure if your doc is a gyn oncologist. If not, I would try to see one. They have the experience with "hard tough, tricky" surgeries. It sounds like yours is going to be under that heading.
I was just re-reading this and have several questions. Is he doing an exploratory lap prior to your hyst?? If not, then having him say he won't know until he sees inside is probably going to end up with you having an abdominal. My doc planned to do the DaVinci with possible conversion to TAH if needed. Luckily he didn't need to do that. I would read up on the Davinci and that way you can ask questions. You don't convert to a Davinci, you convert from a DaVinci to abdominal. Ask about his experience with hysts and specifically the DaVinci. Is he an endo specialist? If not, try to find one close to you BEFORE doing the surgery. I hope this helps so you can ask some questions.,
