I called my doctor's office today because 1) My HR director hadn't gotten my FMLA paperwork, and 2) I hadn't heard if the insurance had approved my surgery, which is in LESS than two weeks.

The nurse called back at 4:00 and said she'd faxed the paperwork on the 8th and would fax it again. When I asked about the insurance she said she's have to have someone else call me back.

The insurance person called back at 4:45 and I asked if the insurance company had approved my surgery. She told me that they don't have to have it pre-authorized because it is considered "outpatient" and they'd already checked and I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket to the doctor in advance.

I was stunned.

I asked if that meant they were going to send me home the same day and she said, no, it's a 23 hour observation and after that, they send you home unless you need more care. WOW!

(Now, of course, I am doing the math...go in at 5:00, surgery at 7:00, that means they'll send me home at 4:00 am or will it be 6:00 am? - eh who cares!)

I will have a co-pay to the hospital, but the outpatient co-pay is so much less than the in-patient co-pay!

Man! What a load off my shoulders. Now I can worry about the good stuff... O_o
