11 days to go......

Well, I am finally going to do it. I am only 31 years old, but I have had 2 c-sections, 2 endo-ablations, and I had a hysteroscopy, laproscopy, and a d&c done 17 days ago. My dr said that I have to have a TAH b/c she couldnt even get insde my uterus when she did the previous surgery, so no laproscopic for me I'm not so much worried about the surgery itself, b/c I'm sure its much like my c-sections. It's all the stories I'm hearing about after the hysterectomy. Like, I'm gonna gain 60 lbs, gonna be grumpy, etc. Any advice!?

Re: 11 days to go......

Hi sister! I am also 31 and just had a TAH on 10.14.2011. I have recover very well from it. Mine was due to cancer though. The only problems I am having right now is menopause. It kicked in 2 days after surgery with night sweats. Those have stopped but I still have hot flashes from time to time. I do cry sometimes, it was alot in the begining but it has calmed down alot. I hope this has helped. Good Luck & I wish you a speedy recovery.

Re: 11 days to go......

Thank you Nikki. I'm glad you are doing well. Are you taking any hormones? Or do you plan on taking any? Looks like it's been right at a month since your surgery....how are you feeling emotionally now?

Re: 11 days to go......

Hi Hurtinginky,
Always keep in mind that a lot of the information you gather is based on the experiences of different people. We will all heal differently, experience different issues ( some folks have none and some have a lot) and we also recovery at various paces. So basically, it is up to you and your body. You will not know how it will react until it's your turn.

Keep an open mind to the procedure and gather as much information pertaining to the recovery process and follow your doctor's orders and instructions. That is the most important thing. Your body will do the rest.

I had the TAH on 10/11 and had the hot flashes and night-sweats...but that is all calmed down now. I have the occasional night-sweat now, but I sleep in cotton T's and am also on HRT. I have had no mood swings (yet) and lost 15 lbs in the first 2 weeks (as your appetite will probably be gone for a bit). I have since gained back 3 of those pounds (as my appetite has since returned) and has stabilized at my current weight. I have also been back to work (after 2 weeks) and all my physically activities with no restrictions (at end of week 4). So you see, it is all up to you, the individual.

I hope this information helps ease your mind a bit.

I wish you a successful surgery and an even more successful recovery :-)

Hugs....
