TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared.

Starting to get really nervous for this Wednesday... I am doing my best to get organized prior to make sure my hubby doesn't have too hard of a time with managing his work and our 2 kids (2 and 4). I am really hoping my recovery will be fast so I can start to drive them to school in a couple of weeks to help take some pressure off of my husband. We live in the Cayman Islands and do not have any family here to help. It is just us. I am not great at asking friends for help, I am the type of person that like to help others but feel like I am inconveniencing everyone else. I really feel that I am going to need extra help though so my husband doesn't get too stressed out.

I would like to hear what you are doing to get prepared and to see if you are just as nervous as me? I do plan to treat myself to a pedicure beforehand, since I will be staring at my feet for a while!

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared. Anyone else on this day?

I'm on the 23rd, too. Finishing up the last of the laundry, mopping, cleaning, all that stuff this weekend. Mine will be Da Vinci laparoscopic. I have young kids too. Good luck to you!

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared. Anyone else on this day?

Brayva....I'm on Tuesday, a day before you. Here is my list for the next couple of days:
cleaning house top to bottom

organizing the refrigerator, freezer, & pantry so everything is inventoried and organized so meals can be made easily

grocery store

Wal-Mart (do they exist in the Caymans???)

picking out dvd's to watch over the next few weeks

getting my favorite pillows on the couch

getting the list of my friends and family that my husband will be texting for the first few days after surgery with my progress

pick up current prescriptions from the pharmacy

full tank of gas for the car so we don't have to make a stop there or back (also washed it this past week and cleaned it out)

made sure that I had enough cat food/litter stocked up and ready, God forbid we run out, MEOW!

Monday goals: trying to mentally relax, keep positive thoughts and extra prayers. All while running to the potty due to the bowl prep!

On a side note, make sure you are allowed to have polish on your nails, some hospitals don't want that. Hate to see you waste money.

Remember that you are not a burden to your friends. That is what they are there for. Allow their help. It makes THEM feel good to help YOU! Accept their help with gratitude and a giant smile. Best wishes on Wednesday!

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared. Anyone else on this day?

Hi, I am having my LSH on 12/1 and getting very nervous. Starting to get things prepared with the house and I have my list made up, house cleaned, laundry done, Kids (ages 3, 6 and 9) have everything they need for school, snacks and lunch money and of course cat food and litter for our Lucy cat!! I feel like that also, I hate asking people for help and I feel like such a burden to my husband, that's why I am going to stay overnight so that he doesn't have to worry about me at least for one night!!! Good luck ladies! I wish you all the best in your recoveries. I am right behind ya!! Hugs.

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared.

Thank you all for your replies. Black Cat, you have definitely inspired me to get more organized, and no, we do not have a Walmart in the Caymans. Gosh, I would love it if we did though

I am only 3 days away and because of this site, I think I am getting more relaxed. I am so grateful I joined!

I wish you all speedy recoveries. Hugs

My surgery is on Tuesday and I'm getting nervous too. I keep reading about weight gain and it's making me crazy.

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared.

I am 4 months post op, doing great. I was nervous too, think that is normal. Pedicure is a good idea. My Dr gave me a script for ativan to take in the am before going to the hospital as well as prescriptions for pain meds that I got filled so they were waiting for me when I got home.

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared.

Brayva - I see that you plan to have a TVH, which is what I had 4 1/2 weeks ago. Since you asked about driving: my doctor said I could drive at 2 weeks. That worked for me. But...

I didn't do any lifting. I did it when I felt up to it.

As long as the kids can get in and out of the car by themselves - and there is a back-up plan in case you don't feel up to it, you should be able to make a few of the treks.

Any chance of setting up a carpool? (just a thought)

Cabinetwoman: Don't worry about weight gain. I didn't gain any. Just make sure you don't overeat when you're not getting any exercise and one of the few productive things you can do is cook.

thanks for the reply. My hubby will be glad to hear I'll be able to cook. :-)

Re: TVH on the 23rd and pretty scared.

Hi Brayva! I just had to say hi - I used to live in Cayman (although it was like 20 years ago!) My brother and his wife still live there so we get to come visit!

I had my hyster two weeks ago tomorrow. I remember how nervous I was a couple of weeks ago, and honestly, it really wasn't that bad. I am already going back to work tomorrow (although I may not stay the whole day - it's a desk job in our family business and I will stay as long as I feel comfortable).

I drove a little on day 6 (around the block) but wasn't really comfortable driving until about day 10. Now on day 13 I feel pretty darn amazing!

I wish you all the best!!
"Soon come" surgery!!!
