Wait. COLD flashes?

Someone mentioned hot AND cold flashes in another post.

I'm starting to feel markedly "different" since removal of my ovaries last Wed. I've had a few hot flashes, and my skin feels very dry, even my face, and (surprisingly) my libido has returned.

But the really odd thing is this: I've always been cold-natured, but now I get so, so cold that my teeth chatter and I shake all over! I had associated that with pain, though - like last night when I fell into bed and prayed for the drugs to take effect, I literally shivered and shook for a long time.

Are cold flashes a symptom?

Re: Wait. COLD flashes?

The most well known symptom is hot flashes but cold flashes can occur also. Falling estrogen level are also to blame for them. If you are sure you arent running a fever then I would just talk to your dr. about the cold flashes. Are you on hrt?

Re: Wait. COLD flashes?

I'll mention it to the doc when I go in next week... no, I don't do HRT - way too many risks vs. the potential benefits.

Re: Wait. COLD flashes?

When estrogen level drops, testosterone isn't bound anymore and is available. When I did a trial of no hormones, I had serious icy cold flashes. I did better with those than the hot flashes.

Ohhhhh.

So is that how the libido has mysteriously returned?

Re: Wait. COLD flashes?

I had cold flashes in the early days post op. Also had hot flashes, which were than followed by mind numbering coldness. My teeth would start chattering. This eventually subsided for me, but it take some time.
