Re: Really getting nervous! HELP!

Best of luck! I had di Vinchi on the 21st with uterus & cervix removed. Read through some of the pre-op & post op stories for hints & tips before going to castle

Make sure to tell antestegiologist & dr any concerns or fears on the morning of surgery (they cant read our minds). When you get up your room after surgery be honest with the nursing staff regarding pain. They will control it but need to know where it is at - let the staff know if you're uncomfortable or need help. Don't suffer needlessly.

Everything about me dried out from surgery. Use eye drops, throat lozenges, nose spray & lotion to rehydrate. Drink water, water & more water!

When you get home REST! Keep your pain meds coming on time, stool softeners & GasX as needed. Every person who I have followed in the forums comments on severe abdominal gas pain (excruciating!!!). Seems to start getting better between days 7&10. Hopefully earlier than later! Ask questions in the forum if you don't see something similar to the issue you are having. Call your doctor if something is not seeming right such as bleeding, drainage, etc.

This website helped me so much with anxiety & concerns. Hoping it helps you as much!

Re: Really getting nervous! HELP!

I have my surgery on 12/1 and the waiting is the hardest part. I too am nervous and sometimes so anxious I can't sleep. I am trying to keep myself busy and I have had a lot going on with my family issues so it's keeping my mind off of surgery. I know I am only 4 days away so I am trying to keep busy like getting the house cleaned and organized and decorating for Christmas. I am getting more nervous as the day draws near but I am also looking forward to feeling better and not dealing with heavy and painful periods and back pain! Good luck to you and I wish you a speedy recovery. Let's chat any time!!

Re: Really getting nervous! HELP!

I am 4 days post op and I feel happy and great! I am resting and as long as I stay resting the pain is almost nil. The worst part for me was some nausea yesterday.

As I mentioned on another thread, I got through by telling myself I wasn't going to stress until 24 hours before surgery. I also did not put any pressure or expectation on myself to sleep the night before surgery. I did not sleep a wink, but I reminded myself that I'd get a nap as soon as the anesthesia kicked in

It is hard not to worry when you don't know what to expect. My mom's surgery back in 1980 was a nightmare and completely different since she had cancer. But that was the only hysterectomy story I knew. Now in 2011 our medical capabilities have come so far and I can honestly say that this was the easiest surgery I have personally ever had. I had TLH/LSO and I felt like my pain was minimal compared to anything I have had done in the past!

Everyone is different, but I am such a wimp that I was expecting this to be so much more painful and was pleasantly surprised that it was not. Good luck!

Re: Really getting nervous! HELP!

my date is tuesday, and you know what? I am not nervous at all, just running around like a crazy woman trying to get everything done that needs to be done.
I cooked for 6 hrs yesterday and froze a bunch of stuff, have laundry going now and will finish up what I need to do today. I work tommorow and get to take dulcolax at 3 pm at work and made my jello jigglers to take with me,that alot of water and tea(no milk) then home to the mirolaxed laced crystal light mmmm mmmm..
been fighting a cold for 8 days, and got the ok from my dr yesterday to take nyquil last night, that took it away pretty much, dont want to have to postpone surgery, that doesnt really fit into the plan

I am nervous too but trying not to think about it, I have been dealing with pain, bleeding for far too long. I am ready for it to be over. I am keeping my ovaries but everything else goes.

I will be thinking of you as the days pass by. Good Luck. Hopefully we can chat again.
I just joined the site and so glad I did. I'm am so nervous and not sleeping much. I wake up every two hours. I can't function like that because in additional to my full time job, I'm a college professor at night. Having scary thoughts. I know this sounds strange, but I am in the process of ensuring that my will is up to date and my insurance policies are correct.

Hopefully, this site will help ease my nerves. Good luck on your surgery. I am glad, that I am not alone in with my feelings and thoughts.

You are in the right place! I had mine done 9/6/11 and I am doing GREAT! I could not believe how much better I feel compared to pre-op.

I also kept my ovaries. I wish you good healing and hope this helps!

Re: Really getting nervous! HELP!

I know that both of the ladies who had surgeries scheduled for today have already had them. So step one is over! I had mine on Monday, the main problem I am having now is gas. Other than that, I do believe I made the right decision. It is comforting to get on here and read the posts that help me calm my fears. I am so grateful! Best of luck to all of you, and thank you for being here!
