Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. I go to a Blood Dr on the 14th to hopefully solve this issue!

So the blood DR took 8 tubes of blood for testing, is having an iron absorbtion test run, and then i will have to get iv iron treaments once a week for at least 8 weeks. Once everything comes up then I can have surgery! I feel like a pin cushion!

Hang in there, sweetie. I know this is difficult, but you really don't want this surgery until your levels come up. You will get there.

Re: Low Iron holding up surgery! Grr

I also suffered from severe anemia. Iron pills didn't work. I went to a Hemotologist. They will run their own tests, but it helps them figure out what's really going on so it's worth it. I started getting iron in March, 2010 and continued to get weekly infusions until January, 2011. I got my first Lupron shot in January and it really really helped because it stopped my bleeding. I'm sorry I didn't get the Lupron shots first. I wouldn't have needed so many infusions (imho).
Getting iron infusions is not a bad experience. The nurses are experienced and made me comfortable. They'd give me a blanket from the warmer (so comfy) and a pillow. I'd lean back in the recliner and get my iron. My numbers got so low a couple of times that I just sat there and cried. It can be hard, but the numbers came back up. The doc also ordered B12 shots because my level was low, but I didn't have the kind of anemia caused by B12 deficiency. I actually got to the point where I knew I would have a nice, quiet nap under a warm blanket on Friday afternoons. :-) It's scary until you've done it once, then you won't even worry about it anymore. Good luck and lots of HUGS :-)
