Notes from my Pre-Op Visit...

I had my pre-op visit today with my wonderful OBGYN (who delevered both my children, and who has saved my life at least once.)

Had the blood draw done and was patiently waiting for the doctor. Just as he walked in, he got a call to go deliver a baby - STAT! So, I got to wait another 30-45 minutes - gave me plenty of time to forget everything I wanted to ask - good thing I had a list.

Here's what MY doctor told ME to do (YOU do what YOUR doctor tells YOU to do - lol):

The nurse gave me all the pre and post op instructions in writing - including the dreaded-bowel-prep. Doctor says, "No, don't do that - you don't have to do that - it'll just make you gassy and bloated and I don't want all that bowel in the way." Instead, he instructed me to eat a "soft diet for two days and to take Dulcolax and milk of magnesia for those two days before surgery, "That'll clean you out enough."

You guys are gonna love this - This is a quote "You are not to use your vagina for ANYTHING for the next 8-10 weeks or until I tell you too." (What? Like I'm going to use it for a purse or something??? Really???)

Cauterized tissue heals slower and can be damaged easier. Oh and "Now you know, after this surgery, you cannot get pregnant." Duh! LOL! It's okay - I'm done.

He also gave me a script for a cream to use internally for 3 days before surgery - kills the bacteria that could cause and infection.

Post op orders include dont be on your feet for more than an hour at a time. No driving for 2 weeks. Only light housekeeping (dang it - I dont wanna do any light housekeeping) Shower, no bath, etc etc etc.

Okay - so no real surprises. I feel even more prepared.

Less than a week to go!

Re: Notes from my Pre-Op Visit...

So glad you got all your questions answered! Your doctor sounds like he has a great sense of humor, how wonderful to have such a great relationship with him!
The surgeon I went to I had only seen once before the surgery and then the morning of surgery. She came highly recommended by a good friend which was comforting but not "warm and fuzzy"!
Sounds like you have all the questions covered, not too much longer for you Arawyn--now you can enjoy your Thanksgiving (hope you talked someone else into cooking it for you)!!

I'm having a DaVinci too, and was told 9 weeks before "anything" -- it's nice to see someone else with similar restrictions, seems most people are given the 6 week rule. Glad you got all your questions answered! Good luck and see you on the post-op side!

Re: Notes from my Pre-Op Visit...

I do love my doctor. He's the best! I am ver lucky to have him.

I will get to enjoy Thanksgiving, but it'll just be the four of us. All the granmas and grandpas are visiting other family members or live far away. Hubby is in charge of the bird (and I get the left overs to make soup). Everything else is all mine to do, but I love to do it, so I don't mind. I'll have all weekend to rest up and recove from gluttony before the purging begins. LOL.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the "other side."

Yeah, I've seen that around too. My doc told me 8 weeks (davinci asst. vaginal hyst.). I go back around 6 weeks post op for my next appointment. Guess I'll see what he says then.

Glad you got all your questions answered.

I had my procedure on 11/17. I have been able to part part of a strainer full of dishes away, but no housework other than that. I'm just too darn tired.

Re: Notes from my Pre-Op Visit...

My doctor had me promise him "nothing in the vagina" for 6 weeks!! I also don't have to do a bowel prep which I am very happy about. He just told me nothing to eat and drink after mid-night. I have my pre-admin on Monday. 8 days and counting...Good luck ladies!!!
