On Period on surgery day

Feeling a little frustrated right now. I am scheduled for surgery on 11/29/11 and by birth control pill prescription will run out on 11/26. I have been on continual birth control in order to avoid painful, debilitating cramps. My doctor does not want me to start another pack of BCP which means that I will start my period on 11/27 or 11/28.

My concern is that I will only be able to take Tylenol, which will do nothing for my pain. Ugh!!!!! I don't think the nurse understood how painful my periods are.

Any suggestions?

Re: On Period on surgery day

I started my period the day before surgery. Thought someone upstairs must have a tweaked sense of humor. It hurt a lot but it just confirmed how much I needed to do the surgery. Once you are in there they will have some great pain meds for you. Hope you can tolerate it.

I think being it that pain before surgery will show you what a difference you feel after surgery. I always told people that I thought my periods were more painful than the surgery to take it out. The way I felt before surgery and the way I felt after confirmed it. I hope you can withstand until your surgery.

I agree 100%. I started mine 2 days before my surgery last week. It was like someone upstairs wanted to get last digs in and made me that much happier that I was moving forward with the surgery.

The best thing was going into the OR bleeding and coming out without it.

Re: On Period on surgery day

Well ladies, I called the dr's ofc back and thoroughly explained how my periods normally keep me doubled over in pain. Thankfully they called me in a script for vicodin. At least now I will be able to bear through the two days before the surgery Tuesday.

Thank you for the support and sharing your stories. Five days until I go to the castle.....

I was on my period up until my surgery, it was so nice when I woke up afterwards to know it would never bother me again. I'm glad the doctor called in a script for you.

I'm having mine too. Dr. rolled his eyes and shrugged, the said, "Well, what can you do?" And went on with the run down of what would happen during surgery. It happens all the time.

Re: On Period on surgery day

I have also been on birth control for the past year to prevent having a period. My doc told me to stop taking it a week before my surgery (which is Mon 28th) but I decided to stop it on the Tues over a week ago with the intention that my period would begin on the Fri so I would not have to be at work over the weekend when the flow was at its heaviest. Well - I am still waiting!!! I am on day 9 not taking the pill and still no period! I only have to make it to Mon and I will be home free!!
