Anyone else having decapeptyl 3mg injections?

Hi all!

Has anyone been prescribed decapeptyl injections to prevent heavy periods? I had my first one three weeks ago and am now having one of my worse periods EVER! I couldn't leave home for 48 hours due to flooding.
I am due my second jab next Friday and I'm worried that if that one doesn't work I may need a transfusion to increase my hemaglobin before my op.

I'd be interested to hear any Sisters' experience of decapeptyl.

7 weeks and counting...

Re: Anyone else having decapeptyl 3mg injections?

not likely... in the US, Decapeptyl inj. (triptorelin) is labeled an "orphan drug" and is, so far, only FDA approved for palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer, although there are studies with ovarian cancer plus limited off-label use for endo and fibroids. However, with the risks of using it outweighing the benefits for most relatively healthy patients, plus lack of FDA approval meaning that insurance won't cover it, it's not a top choice of gyns here.

Its mechanism of action is similar to that of Lupron, though, so women on Lupron may relate to your experience with Decapeptyl.

Re: Anyone else having decapeptyl 3mg injections?

Dear Surferbabe,

Many thanks for the very interesting information! I'm due my second injection on tomorrow and will tell the nurse about my experiences. I'm due a follow up blood test on 6th December to see if my hemaglobin levels have risen from 10... I'll be very surprised if it has!

thanks again for your reply. I hope all is well with you.

take care,
