Nervous

I am sheduled for LAVH next friday, Dec 2nd. I know I am making the right choice as I am 51 and have at least 2 large fibroids, several med size and lots of small ones. I do not want to have to worry about them coming back and having to get another d & c. As my surgery date gets closer, I am getting more nervous about the what ifs. What if the fibroids have damaged my ovaries? What if my bladder gets damaged or falls? How do you get through the last few days of waiting? I am trying to stay busy at work, even working late to not have time to think about it. But at night it is starting to invade my sleep.

Re: Nervous

For me, I tried to read books, magazines, watch tv and at night I listened to relaxation techniques. Just something to shut up my little voices that were very nervous about the surgery. Just take a few deep breaths when you start to feel anxious. I also used to try to figure out different brain teasers as I went to bed. I am sure you will do fine

Re: Nervous

The waiting is the hardest part. I kept busy prepping the household for my recovery. Shopping, paying bills, freezing food, quality time with my son. The last two nights before surgery I took an Ativan because I kept crying and couldn't sleep. I was lucky to have DH rub my back as I fell asleep. Make sure you have lots of movies to watch, books to read, puzzle books etc. A pretty nightie was important to me. If you love baths, have them now cause you can't have one until you're cleared postop. You will get through this and we will see you safely on the other side.

Re: Nervous

I understand just how you feel! I am getting a TAH on December the 12th and have the same what if's as you. I try and keep as busy as I can by just doing extra all day etc... But, when the night comes around...it is on my mind once more. The what if's etc... I am 50 and also have large fibroids that are covering my ovaries as well. Still not sure if they need to take my ovaries as well and my stupid period just came back today. I guess all's we can do is try not to worry about it and put all trust in the doctors.

Re: Nervous

I understand where your coming from, tomorrow is my bowel prep, and surgery Monday, I'm a bit freaked out. It's the only thing I seem to think about, and yes the nights are worse, I keep the tv on so I concentrate on what's on, then those stupid commercials about robotic surgery come on. Can't get a break. Liquids for me tomorrow, thank goodness we have 3 bathrooms in our house. Ha ha, Cat

Re: Nervous

I don't think my house has ever been cleaner! I know if I sit then the "what-ifs" race through my kind so I am trying to keep busy by cleaning. My husband thinks I'm crazy! Today I even scrubbed all of the baseboards in my house and washed all of the walls. When I was done I got out paint and did some touching up. Each night I am in so much pain from doing so much work, but it's better than the worrying! I just want it to be over with!

Re: Nervous

I had my DaVinci LAVH/BSO this past Monday.

Very easy! No pain at any point in time, some slight discomfort. I did have morphine at first, then Percoset.

Got home Wednesday...amazing how much better I feel every day.

Before the surgery it got easier when there were only a few days of waiting. Then everything started to feel as if it was happening more quickly. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Now there is just recovery to look forward to...all i need is Tylenol now.

I wish every one of you the best of luck. You will soon be where I am

Re: Nervous

My dr said from the start it would be 2 nights.

I needed the two nights. Some women go home the same day with no problem.

No one is sent home before they are ready...it really varies

Re: Nervous

I think for the procedure LAVH its a standard of 1 to 2 nights. For the LSH procedure it's same day or one night. Unless if you have any complications then it would be more than 1 night.
