Re: Surgery tomorrow - bowel prep question

you poor thing...so glad my doctor doesn't order bowel prep...though mine will be abdominal....this time tomorrow all you will need to do is rest and recover from surgery. I envy you getting yours over...the waiting now has to be the worst part...had all my pre-ops today...you hang in there drinking that stuff...don't worry about surgery...your surgeon and his/her staff know what they are doing...you just focus on getting better!

Re: Surgery tomorrow - bowel prep question

My DaVinci is scheduled for 12/28 (pushed back from 12/2). I have my bowel prep instructions though - my doc switched from the dulcolax to miralax.

Soft/liquid diet the day before (only because it helps with the prep not because they want to starve you.) With my last 2 of 5 laparoscopies, miralax was the prep of choice. I must say, when you mix it with flavored gatorade (not red) it isn't terrible and the gatorade helps to prevent dehydration too. It is nasty when you think about the large amount of time you'll spend in the bathroom... I also recommend baby wipes rather than tissue. Good luck!!

Thanks for that. I have my baby wipes at the ready and I am hoping the taste won't be too bad...

Re: Surgery tomorrow - bowel prep question

Good luck. I know I hope I get it, as I'd rather be cleaned out and not need to worry about having a BM after surgery so soon. I just had a colonoscopy and the prep was a piece of cake, no worries.

Re: Surgery tomorrow - bowel prep question

My Dr told me a regular diet until midnight the night before, no bowel prep required. One less thing to worry about.
