my odds

Hi ladies,

this may not be the right place for this but here goes. I have read that the estrogen meds can cause cancer I was just wondering has anyone here had this side effect if not that is so great to hear if you have my prayers are with you but I have a question what are the odds of getting cancer of any sort from these meds i am on the vivelle dot 1mg but it says it has 1.65 mg thanks in advance for any and all responses

What type of cancer are you referring to?

If it's breast cancer... you heard wrong. Estrogen replacement has not been shown to cause breast cancer. Taking the combination oral HRT Prempro does raise your odds slightly, but estrogen-only replacement, nope.

I have had breast cancer since my hysterectomy while I've been on HRT; however, it takes 7-10 years for breast cancer to get started and develop to the point where it can be seen on a mammogram and my diagnosis was two years after my hyst, so no one thinks it had anything to do with my HRT. More likely it had to do with several years of depo Provera use a decade earlier.

That said, IF you already have ER+ breast cancer, estrogen replacement will encourage it to grow faster.
