Less than 24 hours until surgery time and my job let me go!

I'm terribly frustrated! I got a call today from my boss telling me that they won't be able to work with my extension for my personal leave of absence and that they were going to have to let me go! I haven't been at my job long enough to qualify for FMLA so this fell under just a personal leave of absence. they fully know the circumstances, I can't believe they would just let me go like that.

Heaven knows my stress levels weren't awfully high already, the addition of this makes it feel a little too much to handle. I have managed to keep it together pretty well since I got the news a few hours ago, but now I'm finding it difficult not to cry. This just stinks!

That is crazy! How can people be so insensitive? They better not do that to me! I asked if I could work from home and they told me no. How long were you told you would be off work?

How long do you have to be at your job to qualify for FMLA?

You have to be with a company for a year. Unfortunately, this all started when I was barely past my first 90 days.

I've been out of work since October 26th, it was originally supposed to be a week due to exploratory lap, but then I had some complications with bleeding, excessive pain as well as the inability to make my job zero lifting (I also had a bladder mesh put in), so the gyn took me off work until the 26th of November. On the 22nd of November I went in for my check up and it was decided that a hysterectomy was in order and was scheduled so the doc took me off until I am healed from that.

My boss told me "you are more than welcome to reapply once your medical issues are in order" I thought...not bloody likely! lol

How generous of him/her. At that point I'd probably tell him to stick his head up his %&*. But that's just me! : )

Good luck to you.

I'd cry too but keep remembering your health is important, you will recover and will probably land an even better job because you will be 100% recovered and feeling great! A job is just a job, your health is your life.

I'm sorry that happened at such a bad time----not that it would ever be a good time. I hope things go more smoothly from here on out. Then you can put your health problems behind you and get back to finding a different job. Best wishes for your surgery.

Re: Less than 24 hours until surgery time and my job let me go!

How awful! I'm so sorry.

I'm self employed and barely working - I'm a structural engineer and no one hires when no one is building, so I had been looking for some temporary or part time work and gave that up for a hyster. I'm hoping with all my health problems taken care of I will feel more confident with the job search after the new year.

I hope that after your hyster recovery you find the best job ever!
