Re: Less than 24 hours until surgery time and my job let me go!

I'm sorry to hear this.

But, you were just past your 90 days (new employee). They can't afford "hold" a job for someone that hasn't and isn't going to be around for many months. They have to have productive & reliable employees to continue to keep things running.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but it is what it is and you can't change that. Employers have to make hard decisions in cases like this for "their" company. There is no room for sympathy when it comes to keeping a company running.

It still sux though.

Keltec,

I understand the why of letting me go, but it doesn't make it any less stressful for them to do it the day before my surgery. All I can do is thank God I didn't have their insurance or I would have been in some major trouble.

I know hun.

My husband had a GI bleed in 1991 and almost died due to stress from his job. Of course, 1 week into his recovery, they called him at home and told him he didn't have a job because they couldn't "wait" on him to come back.

Boy, that really helped his stress level. geezzz

Re: Less than 24 hours until surgery time and my job let me go!

I have been on my job for 8 months and after reading your post, I feel very blessed that I am eligible for FMLA, sick time and vacation time, and my supervisor is very compassionate. I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I am praying for you my sister. Depending on the job availability in your area, it might be a good idea to start applying for jobs online during your 6-8 week recovery period....just a thought.

This is just terrible. I am in my last week of work before surgery, and we all have that fear exactly this could happen.

However, I hope you are encouraged by all these posts and realize you are #1 right now. All things happen for a reason, and once your health is in balance, the sky will be the limit for a new career.
