Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

Not sure about the previous complications theory. I had no prior condition physically; had TAH 9 months ago as lost my beautiful sister to ovarian cancer & advised by geneticists we could be a 'Lynch' family & the cancer had jumped forward a generation. I believed my recovery would be a snappy affair, as I was fit & only UK size 8, but from day one I've been size 12 & carting a cantaloupe around with me. Like you I thought it cute (though ironic as it's the nearest I've got to being pregnant!) but am now royally fed up with it grrr

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

I had my surgery on Dec. 1st. So only a few days ago. I had a TAH, with everything removed. It is wierd, where my ovaries were it really painful on both sides and swollen. Almost bruised on the skin even. When I wear my belly band I feel skinnier, and my belly looks flat. WIthout it I feel my belly just kind of flop! Its really swollen. I hope it will go back down. But I am only a few days out so I will be okay!

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

Had my hyster followed by 3 more major surgeries within 32 days. I still have swelly belly but lost so much weight that some of the "extra" skin may be due to that. I can wear my jeans that were 2 sizes too big and find that I have to pull them up all the time. I have gotten used to buying and wearing scrub pants to work. Heck, they are comfortable and they stay up! So, jeans or no jeans, it is up to the individual. My swelly belly likes the light weight slacks of the scrubs and co-workers think I am wearing dress pants to work. Win-win situation for me. I have found my jeans to be heavy and cumbersom during the day. I am sticking to scrubs! Have a wonderful day ladies!

Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

I had the same surgury as u on 11/11. I wore my belly band for the first eeek and a half after I came home. I suggust wearing it ad long as u need it. I also have soreness, discolotation just as u. One of my overies was the size of a volleyball. It will get better..really..im 3 weeks out and still swollen and sore. At times it feels like ive done a million situps in that area. Anothet thing I found out the haed way. Sometimes sitting on the couch or chair for too long will hurt after a while. Lay down when u can.

Hmmmmm - a cure for the swelly belly????
If many of us wake up with a reasonably flat abdomen, which gets bigger as the day wears on, perhaps we should just stay in bed for a few months?

(Only joking )

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

I think that sounds like a plan! LOL. I do have a nice tummy in the morning but it literally begins swelling as soon as I get up. Tomorrow I'm gonna measure it in the morning and again before bed just to see what the difference is. I had to buy stretch waist pants, 2 sizes larger than usual on Saturday. I almost cried I found it so depressing. They look like dress pants but they don't zip or button and have little stretchy panels on the waist. I feel like I'm fat and old and frumpy and extremely unsexy.

On an unrelated subject: why do I see baby stuff EVERYwhere when I go out?! I'm not enjoying that too much either.

I bought a couple of pairs of very similar pants (2 sizes larger ) and they have been fantastic in helping me get though a sit-down job which is uncomfortable on the belly.
But, yes, you are right, they are so unsexy.
For work clothes, I have felt a lot better about myself wearing leggings (2 sizes too big) and tunic tops that conceal the fact that the leggings are a bit loose around the waist, and also hide the pregnant look.
VERY comfortable.

But now, I want to get into my summer clothes!

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

Being 50 and having had 5 kids and 3 grandchildren for the past 3 summers. I don't care if there is baby stuff everywhere. I have to admit though when I see tampons and pads I get a big smile on my face! When I see young couples with small children I smile while thinking to myself that they have many years left of raising their little ones while I only have one left to leave the nest and she is a Junior in High School already. Made up our minds that although we love our 8 grandchildren dearly, we are not going to take 3 of them in for almost 4 months next summer! It will be time for us!

Now if I could just get in to my regular clothes! After losing 40 pounds, I am still wearing bigger clothing. My DH says it doesn't matter because I look nice and am finally healthy! I will just play on that for now!

Blessings toall of you sisters! Have a lovely week!

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

I'm at week 7 post op from TAH - Swelly Belly continues to plague me. Like many of you I'm wearing strech pants at least two sizes bigger than I did just two months ago. Today I offcially go back to work at 30% effort (whatever that is going to mean). I teach fitness classes so it will be interesting. I haven't lost or gained weight, just several inches around my middle . With a bit of luck going back to work may help to firm things back up...of course Im anticipating swelling too...can you say rock and hard place?? Have a great day everyone. I surly see a nap in my future.

Re: Sisters : What's the real scoop on the swelly belly?

I had "swelly belly" before surgery because of how swollen my uterus was. Six days after surgery it's not much different. Of course, I haven't done much since surgery either.
