Re: looking for my lost sanity....help!!!

I will keep sending hugs & good thoughts to you, js. :-)

My recovery has been very slow as there have been many complications- but I wouldn't change anything. I'm 8 weeks postop & have MS, so I sort of expected it to be this way having a compromised immune system. My latest issue may require more surgery- a 6cm infected blood clot. Been on hardcore antibiotics for 4+ weeks & have lost 25 lbs so far due to the nausea. Ugh.

How are you feeling now? I pray and hope i'm cured once this is all over. just want my life back.
Glad to help.

As for me, I'm doing great! Recovery is no cake walk, but compared to others, my recovery has been easy: Very little pain, mild swelly belly, no constipation or UTI or any other common post-op complaints. I do have sleep issues - I tire easily and cat nap off and on throughout the day then find myself wide awake when the rest of my family is sleeping. As I understand it, this is very common and as I become more active, the sleep patterns will go back to normal.

I attribute my complication free and relatively pain free recovery to following my doctor's post op instructions! About a week+ post-op (Thanksgiving weekend) I was feeling really good, energetic, restless and bored. I did not cook - friends hosted us for Thanksgiving dinner and I even had full use of the guest room to sleep mid afternoon. Black Friday I stayed home and rested. By comparison, several others, who had surgery on and around my surgery date, over did it on Thanksgiving then participated in the whole insane shopping experience the following day. There were several tales of woe over the next couple of days.

Had my 2 week post-op appointment today and have been cleared to resume all my regular activities with the following instructions: Nothing in the vagina, increase lifting limit to 15-20 lbs, get plenty of rest and if it hurts, don't do it. Pretty simple.

I found it helpful to focus on the positives: No more irregular and heavy bleeding, no more hauling pads around everywhere I go and no more 'pillows' between my legs. No more planning my life and activities (especially sex) around Aunt Flow. No more soiled undies and clothes, ....... You get the picture. I can't wait to shop for new pretty lingerie and throw away all those 'period panties'. Makes a few days or weeks of discomfort seem well worth it in the end. FYI - I started a post like this, "Post-op Hopes and Dreams", and the responses were hilarious. Start one for yourselves and have fun.

All you ladies take care of yourselves first and the rest will take care of itself.

McLila you are an inspiration! I know that I would probably be tempted to be too active too soon afterwards, especially since I've been so inactive for so long it's driving me bananas.

I will take your experience to heart! I'm so glad you're doing well and it's encouraging to hear how upbeat you are. Thank you!

Funkybeachhouse - I am sorry to hear that things have been difficult. I have you in my prayers, that things get better!!! The weight loss sucks when your not trying. I can relate to that. in the last two months i've lost 20 pounds. nice to lose the weight, but not this way.

Re: looking for my lost sanity....help!!!

Girl, when you find your sanity, let me know cause mine might be there too! I was going to schedule my surgery for 12/26 - my doctor was fine with that but the hospital is not scheduling elective surgeries that day or the day after New Years. So my choice was wait until 1/9 or push up to 12/19. I chose December. As it is, I am very antsy and while I am apprehensive about going to the hospital, I just want to get this over with. I'm not a good waiter.

Seems like a few of us are in this together ...we will survive & be better on the other side!

Re: looking for my lost sanity....help!!!

It's so great to have all you ladies to commiserate with! No one else seems to really get it. I just scheduled my surgery today, for January 11. I also can't imagine waiting that long, but I hope the holidays make it go fast. I have a 12 year old son, so I have to try to keep things are normal as possible for him, which is really hard!

I also can't wait to be able to wear pretty undies - and wear a bathing suit and swim with my son again!! Better days are ahead for all of us!

I know excatly what your going through. I have a 5 year old son and I am a single parent. I have been carrying all this guilt because there is so much I want to do with him, but can't. I just imagine all the things were are going to do together when this is all over. It's hard to hide these things from them. my poor son keeps asking " mommy does your tummy still hurt?" I can not wait for the moment I can respond with "no, wanna wrestle" lol

I am glad to see there are a few of us suffering till january, I won't be suffering alone! Come on ladies let the count down begin... for me 1 month and 8 days!!

who am i kidding that still sucks! lol
