Went shopping for my castle trip ...

So, yesterday I was such an emotional mess. I didn't do any work while I was in the office, even though I had a report due today @ 5pm. So, I was up all night working, had a meeting this morning, and still completed my report before 3PM. I decided to go shopping; figured it would lift my spirits. I got some granny panties that everyone says I'm going to need, a robe that must be made of the softest material ever (don't ask me what) and a pair of Isotoner holiday slippers so I will be looking cheery & in the holiday spirit while I walk the halls of the castle post-op.

I do feel better today. (Not counting on that to last because I'm moody to begin with!)

Have you started gathering items for the trip? (I sound like we're going on vacation, right?)

I'm scheduled 12/7 and I just ordered a Kindle Fire. Haven't shopped for anything else though. Will go look for a recliner tomorrow.

Re: Went shopping for my castle trip ...

I'm thinking about stuff. I was going to buy some sleepwear, but then after reading this board, decided I'll wear the hospital gowns instead. I have a very comfy, soft bathrobe which I might bring with me. Already have the Isotoners. I just realized, though, that I'll need to bend to put those on. Maybe a pair of backless slippers that I can just slide my foot into. I'm hoping there's an outlet where I can charge up my eReader each night. And when I go for my preop appointment Dec 6th, I think I'll make that a shopping trip as well. (My appointment is in the afternoon.) I would like to get some comfy pants for at home. I'm usually a blue jeans person, but some nice, soft cotton wear would be better post op, I think. I've already got the undies from when I used to be heavier than I am now, and they're of the support type. My sister in law had a hysterectomy few years ago and she recommended something along that line, some sort of girdle or support...or "spanks"...?

In the meantime, we run a farm and I'm trying to make sure all the bookkeeping is caught up and I'll have as little to deal with as possible post op. Trying to plan the days pre-op as well. Extra cooking, putting some stuff in the freezer, plus Christmas baking.

I'm a 'list' person, so now there's another list on the fridge--stuff to do, stuff to get, stuff to take to the hospital.

You'll enjoy your Kindle, that will keep you happily occupied for hours. We can't get the Kindle Fire in Canada, but I've got my Kobo Vox and I just love it! It's all loaded up with books and ready to go.

Re: Went shopping for my castle trip ...

Hi Ladies,
Let me share with you what was the most helpful on my trip in the castle.

LIP BALM!!!! It's so dry in the castle, you will be glad you brought it. Slippers that you can slide you feet into. (Bending is not something you are going to want to be doing) I actually bought socks that had the little grips on the bottom. My own jammies. They let me take a shower on the second day, my catheter was out and my IV was out, so I wanted my own jammies.

What I didn't bring that I wish I had was my own pillow. Hospital pillows gave me a headache because there is no support. My glasses. The TV was across the room and on top of the ceiling of all places, LOL!

If anyone has any questions, I would be more then happy to help in any way I can

Re: Went shopping for my castle trip ...

I packed light. Lip balm, eye drops, lotion, cell phone/charger. Wore home the clothes I wore in. Hospital gown & slippers worked fine. Had all I needed. Best of luck.

Re: Went shopping for my castle trip ...

Sounds like we are getting prepared! Lip balm ... I certainly can't forget that. And the slippers are slide on, don't want any unneeded bending. :-)
