Outpatient??!!

Hello ladies! I am scheduled for surgery on 12/7 and my doctor stated she will try laparscopic with the possibility of abdominal surgery depending on scar tissue and the cyst removal.

However, during my anesthesia consult, it was stated as outpatient surgery. This makes me more nervous not knowing if I am coming home the same day or staying for 1-3. Have any of you been on outpatient status?

Thanks!

Re: Outpatient??!!

No, not an outpatient. I was admitted for two nights.

Re: Outpatient??!!

Thanks Sugar...that is kinda what I am thinking, but there were some great posts from some ladies here who went home in less than 24 hours. It looks like insurance restrictions determine it. Hope you are doing well.

Re: Outpatient??!!

I was indeed an outpatient. I went in at 6am and was dishcharged at 4pm. I walked and voided and everything I was suppose to do and was sent home same day! It isn't as hard as you think it will be. Fatigue will wear you down. Just when you finally get home, find a place and STAY be it upstairs or downstairs. Hope this helps!

Re: Outpatient??!!

Mine was done as outpatient with 23 hour observation. Doc said going in that if there were any problems, I would say longer, but there weren't and I went home the next day, feeling pretty good.

Re: Outpatient??!!

That's amazing going home the same day! Unfortunately there's no way I could have done it. I really hope you won't need an overnight stay :-)

Re: Outpatient??!!

Hi, I had abdominal BSO on Oct 7. I was also scheduled for laparoscopic with the possibility. If my dr had been able to do it with a scope it would have been same day surgery and I would have been sent home afterwards.

As it turned out he did make the small incision in my belly button to insert the scope but due to extensive dense adhesions and enlarged ovaries he did end up having to do laparatomy. He said he coudn't even see my ovaries once he had opened me up and he had to remove them by feeling for them. I ended up staying 3 days.

Wishing you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery.
