Itchy & burning sensation - incisions

My incisions are driving me crazy!! It started last night with little switches of feeling itchy....NOW its full blast. I want to just scratch and scratch. I was worried about it and called DR since they looked more red today than ever. He stated at some point they will get a sunburn look to them and he sure was right and the itching is normal due to healing. He mentioned the redness shud not go past a 1/4 inch from the wound. Said I could try some benedryl cream to help sooth it but NEVER scratch using your nails, said to use a soft cloth just to glide across itchy areas....I put some antibiotic cream on it yesterday. the dr said thats fine but not to use it daily since the cream seals the wound and at this point and it needs air. Anyone else suffering from this?

Yes, itching is a sign of healing which is both good and bad.

You can do a search for "itchy incisions" to see other threads on the topic.

Hang in there
