Impromptu Pre-op today! - Suprise Biopsy

Since I have battled excessive/prolonged periods since I was 12 (for the last 24 yrs) and I have been diagnosed with both endometriosis and adenomyosis - I was not that concerned with all bleeding/spotting I have been having for the last 35+ continuous days. With that being said, since my surgery is coming up, I decided I should explore possible reasons for the excessive/prolonged bleeding, (not to mention, considering the 8 weeks post-op where I won't be able to "be" with my hubby -and the 4 weeks that have already gone by I hope to resolve this bleeding soon!)

The good/bad news: The bad news was there was nothing obvious that was causing the bleeding. I am having my cervix removed too but to ensure there were no suprises, my Dr. decided she wanted to do a biopsy right then and there just to make sure there were no precancerous cells present! While I LOVE my Dr. and have total confidence in her, I was not thrilled to go through this unprepared! In the grand scheme of things it wasn't horrible but it certainly wasn't pleasant and I am relieved to know that I will never have to go through that again. Nothing like ending the day with with labor like cramping.

The good news: While I was there, I was able to go over all of my pre-op questions and immediately had all my lab work done after the appointment. I was disappointed to learn that I am the last patient/surgery of the day - and my Dr. told me that I should plan to be "late" getting started. I am definitely not looking foward to that given that I will most likely be very hungry and I will have extra time in my lovely hospital gown to think, worry and "freak out" about what life will be like on the other side.

Re: Impromptu Pre-op today! - Suprise Biopsy

I, too, had a late afternoon surgery. Everyone said I would be to anxious to feel hungry. I wasn't and I did get hungry, but it wasn't that big of a deal. I was allowed clear liquids until 10:00 am, and that included my morning cup of joe, so not as bad as it could have been

Once they get you in to pre-op, things start going fast; nurses and doctors in and out asking questions and performing all the prep work. Next thing you know they are wheeling you into surgery and the suddenly you are waking up and food is the last thing on your mind.
