Not hungry anymore and can't sleep

Anyone else loose their appetite before the surgery? I feel hungry but food just looks terrible to me all the time. Also, I can't seem to sleep without sleep aides all last week or this. I tried one night and ended up only with 2 hours of sleep. I'm sure it's nerves but it's nice knowing if anyone else is experiencing this. I get a lot of "you'll be fine" from my family and friends. "This is an easy surgery so don't worry."Thanks everyone for all your answers with other questions. It's so nice knowing I'm not alone.
1 week to go!

Re: Not hungry anymore and can't sleep

Yes, it is just nerves. This is a scary and overwhelming experience.

I would not say this is easy surgery - it is not. This is MAJOR SURGERY with removal of a very important organ. This is not minor surgery that you bounce back from in two weeks. From what I have been told, the only surgery more major is open heart surgery.

It is really hard for someone who has not gone through this to understand.

But, please make sure you are taking enough time off work and are getting help at home during your recovery.

We are here to support you....

Re: Not hungry anymore and can't sleep

I know how you feel. My surgery is in less than a week and I feel as though I am living on Ambien (so I can get 4 hours of sleep a night) and xanex to get through the work days. I totally trust my surgeon but he is a general surgeon not an ob/gyn specialist so that sort of adds to my fears because everyone here is talking about their specilized physicians. I don't doubt I am doing what is right for me just worry about the timing. In the past my surgeon has never miss judged my recovery time in how long I would be out from work but after reading everything here I am begining to see it is probably more than I imagine in my head.

Mary Jo, you will get through this, and while it may seem that you are stressing now take a deep breath and tell you self "I am doing what is best for me, I am a survivor and only I will know that it takes to get through this and I am most important in this process."

I keep reminding myself of that when the panic starts to set in and it help me a lot.
