Dehydtration After Surgery

Good Morning Sisters

Will I need Gatorade or anything like that after surgery to keep from getting dehydrated or will plenty of water do the trick?

Re: Dehydtration After Surgery

While you're in the hospital, you will get plenty of IV fluids to keep you well hydrated. At home, water should suffice unless your DR tells you there is a reason you need something else. In fact, most of us find that when we first get home we are still eliminated excess fluids from the hospital IVs.

I suggest bringing a water bottle with you so you have water on the way home. My mouth was very dry despite how much water I drank and the IV. Stopping to fill my prescriptions without water was hard. Luckily I found a water cooler and took laps from there to my seat while I was waiting.

Re: Dehydtration After Surgery

Same for me. I had an IV and drank about a gallon of water the first day and I STILL had dry mouth. If you have a patch for nausea, that makes the dryness worse. It's probably best to take it off as soon as you think you can. I was so dry from it I couldn't pee until after it was off - and they wouldn't let me go home until I peed.
