frustrations 6 weeks

I had my six week followup appointment yesterrday. The Dr. gave me a pelvic exam. While he was doing it, it hurt a little. He then told me that I still have some stitches and irritation there, so no sexual intimacy till I see him in two weeks. I was very emotional about this. I forgot to ask him my questions. I did call back to see if I can take a bath and use the hot tub at my gym. I can do that and workout. The biggest frutration though is this morning when I woke up I didn't want to get out of bed, because I was sore abdominally. All day I have been sore and had to take Tramadol. Is this normal after a pelvic exam after surgery?

Re: frustrations 6 weeks

I don't know about "normal", but I had my first pelvic yesterday as well, was also told I have undissolved stitches and inflammation, and have to go back in 3 weeks. I was not released for bathing, sex, or anything other than light housework and lifting restricted to 10 pounds.

I took a Norco and muscle relaxer as soon as I got home (2 hrs later due to daughter's school schedule), and I think these helped prevent severe pain/spasms from both the exam and the long drive to/from dr. However, I am still experiencing vaginal and abdominal discomfort this morning and took 1/2 Norco to help with it.

With fibromyalgia, I always do what I can to stay on top of the pain. Therefore if I feel pain, I don't hesitate to take an appropriate pain med. Just be careful about driving if you need it.

Hope your pain resolves soon, and that you healing may continue at a steady pace. Be patient, and look forward to the long term results of surgery. This frustrating "healing time" will pass...more slowly for some of us...but we'll get there.
