Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

I am 2 days pre-op for a da vinci. i was told that if there is endometriosis, bleeding could continue with ovaries left intact. I am losing everything (uterus, cervix, ovaries and tubes) because i have had heavy bleeding very often (every 2.5 weeks) for over two years and nothing (including an ablation) has stopped it.
i took lysteda which lessoned some of the bleeding but didn't do too much for me.

Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

I have not bled since day 2 post op.

I understand that with ovaries and cervix still there you could have what are called mini periods, but my understanding is that usually that bleeding is very minimal.

Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

Im wondering, even if one has endometrosis, how can there still be bleeding when there is no more uterus but have ovaries? Will the bleeding still be the same amount compared to pre-op?

And why is it that there will be mini periods?

Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

There would be some bleeding because in endometriosis there is lining material that has grown outside of the uterus. it is fed by the hormones created by the ovaries and therefore if you still have your ovaries and endo that tissue still goes through the same cycle as if it were in the uterus.

Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

Not really sure. Sorry. i think it depends on the amount of endometriosis.

Re: Concerned about bleeding after hysterectomy

since I plan on keeping my cervix dr. told me I could have light bleeding every month. She said it would be nothing like a regular period much less my regular period. More along the lines of light to heavy spotting.
