Pre-op appt. today. changed from LAVH to LSH. Any thoughts?

Hello Ladies! I had my pre-op appt. with my surgeon and also at the hospital today for my upcoming surgery on Dec. 15th. My appt. went well. I had been scheduled for a LAVH. My husband had been reading the pamphlet that I received from this site, and he asked the Dr. about being able to keep my cervix! He said he didn't want me to have any problems with prolapse later ( i have a feeling he was interested for other reasons also!) funny, as without reading that book, he would have never thought to ask about that, and I hadn't really thought about my cervix that much. I was more interested in keeping my ovaries and not having to deal with the hormone treatment. But, he thinks since I am 52, I am better off having them taken and leaving the cervix. Can anyone give me any advice about this and any pros or cons to keeping the cervix? I think the recovery time is actually quicker without having the cervix removed. Thanks for any input!

Re: Pre-op appt. today. changed from LAVH to LSH. Any thoughts?

I know the surgery is a little longer, probably because they can't just grab and go but need to cut the neck in the right place.

My personal choice was to keep ovaries if there are no problems. I always figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Same with my cervix. If it is healthy, why remove it? I would rather risk mini periods and have a pap than get prolapse.

I think people can give you all kinds of pros and cons but it is up to you to decide what you want.

thank you for your response whirlygig. I am still trying to decide about keeping the cervix or not. I would love to hear more pros and cons on the subject as far as how much better recovery it is or what other reasons are good to keep or not keep. so many decisions about this surgery, and I was all set to have the LAVH until my hubby mentioned the cervix. hate having to worry about something else!
