Pain on right side of incision after 5 weeks

I am about 5 1/2 weeks after my hysterectomy and have been having very sharp pains to the right of the incision. My incision is up and down the belly. Not sure what the cause could be and it has been going on for about 2 weeks now. The prescription IBProfen doesn't even ease the pain a little. So I am stuck taking the Percacets. That does help, but I feel I shouldn't be taking them anymore.

A little history into my case since it does seem to be a little different. On Oct 26, 2011 I went in for a tubal ligation and ablation. Somewhere along the lines, the Dr punctured my uterus and bowel 2 times each. 5 days later I felt like I was going to push a child out, there was such severe pain. After the 2nd trip to the ER, they finally did a CT scan and found a pocket of infection in the Uterus. They admitted me and put me on antibiotics. But throughout the day I only got worse. They then transported me to a bigger hospital. The next day, they did a hysterectomy, cervix and uterus, and removed a portion of my bowel. When the staples were removed, the incision had not fully closed. I have spent the past month having it packed 2 times a day.

I'm just really not sure if this pain could be one of my ovaries, my bowel, or something else. Has anyone else experienced this pain?

Alandria

I had something very similar! In my case it was an internal stitch that was poking outward. It HURT. I think it took another week or so before it stopped hurting so bad. But if your pain covers a large area it might not be the same issue. Of course it never hurts to call the doctor and ask as well. Just for peace of mind.

Pain on right side of incision after 5 weeks

Hey LookingForASis! I actually ended up in the ER the other night. I began having an exteme amount of drainage. It ended up there was a pocket that had formed under where it had already healed and the drainage was building up causing a lot of pressure. When I went back yesterday for my 6 week check, they ended up having to cut it back open. So now, its worse than it was when they took the staples out and I still have about another 4 weeks before I can go back to work. This ablation really messed up my life right now.

Thanks for the reply and insight! HUGS

Re: Pain on right side of incision after 5 weeks

Hey Alandria...I too experienced the infection and drainage, and after 8 weeks post-op I still have a small "imperfection", (as the doctor put it), in my incision. There is just a small part that is not yet closed and is no longer big enough for packing. I too was having severe pain on this particular side and was told is was nerves. He said that where I had had 2 previous c-sections and now the hysterectomy, I was bound to experience nerve dissruption or damage and it could remain that way for an extended period of time or even indefinately. Once I received the go ahead from the doctor, I visited my physiotherapist and since I've been working with him, I find the pain has gone down considerably. Maybe you should get a second opinion, or demand he have another look to see what it could be. It could be something as simple as mine. Here's to hoping it is. Good luck and I hope you soon start to feel better.
