4 days post op and terrified to...

I'm in day 4 of my recovery and feel I'm doing great. I'm terrified to cough or sneeze though, worried it will do damage. Is this unrealistic thinking? Any tips on lessening the discomfort from coughing or sneezing? I hug a pillow to my tummy, and it helps, but I'm afraid it'll damage things that I'll be unaware of.

I had DaVinci 3 weeks ago. My nurse said to use mild heat on the abdomen (heat did give me relief that first week) and keep up with your pain meds!- you shouldn't damage anything by coughing

Coughing is actually good post op to help keep your lungs clear. Important to do so that you do not develope pneumonia.

Coughing shouldn't be suppressed, but I think it is okay to avoid sneezing..... which REALLY HURTS.

I don't mean stop a sneeze half-way through which might damage your ear-drums, but stop the first urge.

I did this for about 3 weeks, by one of two methods:

At the first faint tickle, place your finger sideways under your nose and push upwards hard.
Push your tongue hard against the roof of your mouth.

OnceI started to let myself sneeze again, it no longer hurt.
I don't think sneezing will do damage, though the tummy pillow helps - it's just that it hurts so [email protected]!
