Cuff pain

Tomorrow makes 7 weeks since my LAVH/BSO. Really feeling pretty good except for some pain from my vaginal cuff. Is this normal at 7 weeks? It's not terribly painful, more uncomfortable. Happens if I sit for a while or if I've been up on my feet alot. If I stay lying down/reclined, there's no problem. How long can it take for these to heal up?

Re: Cuff pain

I had a TAH/BSO and I can say this pain lasted a long time for me - maybe 9-10 weeks.

I DO think this is normal - there have been a few threads about this. I think we all know it's not a UTI, because it feels more like a pinching, twingeing feeling at times, and a dull ache at other times.

I mentioned it to my surgeon at my 6 week check up and he dismissed it as totally normal. My cuff wound had healed perfectly. I felt it particularly when my bladder emptied, and it was the emptying bladder pulling on internal stitches, or where they had healed but left some tightness.
I think the nerves take a long time to heal in this area.

I reckon you will find this pain gets a lot less in the coming weeks. But even at 3 1/2 months I just occasionally get a twinge or two there if I have been doing something really energetic.
You just have to be patient and try not to worry!

Re: Cuff pain

Hi Wild,
I'm at 4 months LAVH (kept ovaries) post op. My job is mainly sedentery, however, when I stand for long periods of time, it feels like sharp pain shooting up there. Like you, I rest when I can, get back at it. Its still uncomfortable during sex, too. We're sill healing; even at my stage. I'm almost have way home to half of my healing. It takes a year to completely heal. I hate going shopping, my DH does most that. Take it easy when you can, but try to stay into a norma routine as possible. My nurse told me that Kegel exercises helps, too. I try to top the fow of my urine when I use he bathroom. That helps to make my bladder stronger. Call your nurse if you feel like something is wrong.

Blessings,
Marilyn
