Re: My worst fear come true

I asked my doctor this yesterday, because I've been bleeding so heavily for so long. Yes, they will still do it. He told me that heavy bleeding is the reason many women have the surgery, so it's not a problem at all. Don't worry, you'll be ok!

Re: My worst fear come true

Somewhere on this site I was reading about a woman who had to wear her panties into surgery because she was on her period.

Re: My worst fear come true

Gardenangel,
Doesn't AF just show up so unexpectedly! AF showed up for me right before my surgery as well. Although I was never what some call on a "normal cycle". I was worried my surgery would be rescheduled too, but my dr. said that it wasn't a problem for him. I think you should call your dr.'s office, and run it by the dr. Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery, and recovery. AF may think she is having the last word, but we all know what you have in store for her! lol

Re: My worst fear come true

Amazing... seems like Im getting one final indignity before getting rid of this traitor that is my uterus. I have bled through clothes in public... bled on the seat of my brand new car... cancelled plans... postponed romance... and the last five days cant just be anxiety ridden with a side of insomnia... I gotta feel gross too. Im almost afraid to call the dr in case he might want to postpone. I cant deal with my emotions any longer... I feel like Im falling apart now!

Re: My worst fear come true

This was one of the first questions on my list of things to ask the surgeon. She smiled and said "We have seen it all." It will be okay.

Call your doc just to ease your fears. The last thing you need is more anxiety before surgery! Also, think about it this way: this is the LAST TIME you will have a period. Ever!

HURRAY!!

However - do be prepared to spot and even bleed for a few weeks post-op. I'd wanted to have a pad-burning party before surgery and was glad I didn't... but soon. Very, very soon. In a big pile in the backyard.

That might have been me! UGH! Yes I went right into the OR with my granny panties and a huge pad on! Wasn't a problem as far as surgery goes. I had been bleeding non stop for over 3 weeks. The best was when I came out of recovery and all that bleeding was over!!

Re: My worst fear come true

I have been in twice while bleeding heavily. It's no problems for the surgeons as far as I know. I wore the theatre undies and my surfboard, just as dee2827 said above. I expect I'll still be bleeding when it's time for my hysterectomy too. I sympathise with you, I think I've bled on just about every piece of furniture we own. I lay a big towel on the seat in the car now too. Good luck with everything.

Re: My worst fear come true

Worry not. I am scheduled for tvh + prolapse repair for this Friday. My period started yesterday. I called my surgeon just to be reassured. She said it's "no problem." I was almost positive but surely did not want to take a chance on being sent away just before surgery.
