Pelvic floor therapy.... I said WHAT!

I think I'm more worked up about the pelvic fllor therapy before and after the surgery. Can anyone give me any insight on what to expect. I have read online descritions but first hand hyster sister experience would be much more appreciated. Any advice or tips?

Re: Pelvic floor therapy.... I said WHAT!

If you mean Kegel exercises, they are actually a great way to keep your pelvic floor muscles in shape even if you don't have a hysterectomy. The exercises will really help prevent incontinence as you get older. Many women find that strengthening those muscles leads to stronger orgasms and a better sex life as well.

I do need to take my own advice and do these exercises more regularly... definitely be sure that your doctor clears you to do them after surgery, but as with all other activity after surgery, if it seems to be causing pain/discomfort or bleeding, you should not be doing it.

Here is a link to a You Tube video on Kegel exercises done by an Australian physiotherapist: <> She has a number of good videos on there- her one on how to get into and out of bed after surgery really helped me.

Best wishes!

no mine involves electrodes that contract the perineum and measure strength etc. creepy and vaginal dilation with all kinds of up close and personal encounters with a physical therapist and equipment.

Kegel I know about and still do since having children. But this is more detailed and personal.

No worries, I appreciate your explaining. It reminded me of having biopsies of my cervix taken by an inexperienced medical student during an exam when I was a teenager. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Sometimes its easy to misunderstand on here... each woman might be coming from a different place... Some getbanxious

Sometimes its easy to misunderstand on here... each woman might be coming from a different place... Some get anxious more easily (*nothing* wrong with that!) while others have nerves of steel. And then there are the rest of us, somewhere in between... lol...

One thing for you to look forward to after surgery is a break from your hectic schedule. Enjoy it, and wishing you a smooth recovery!
