Surgery in 1 week, just need to vent!

Ok, surgery for a TAH is scheduled for next tuesday at 7:30am. As for as being ready for the holidays, I'm ready, BUT., my dearest mother is driving me nuts! She is 83 yrs old and lives in this beautiful villa but, let's just say she would never win the Betty Crocker homemaker award. I get a call from the managment about the condition of the place. I've been trying to keep up with it, but with working 6 days a week and betwein 10-12 hour days at that, I just can't do it. As far as she is concerned her place is kept clean. Guess we have a different defination of clean. So I have spent the last 2 nights there right after I got off work cleaning. Today I had cleaners come in and clean the carpets. The place is spotless, but I know by the time we go over there for christmas day, it won't. I'm just lost, with only a week to go I have so much to try and get done at home and at work. She expects so much but won't do a thing for herself to even help. I know she is old and has limits to what she can do, but to even wipe up a spill would help so much! I only have a brother who really isn't much of a help and my son is a HUGE help but it is going to be so hard to go over there and know that things need to be done and I can't do it.

Just how does everyone who has had this done get it all done?? I know I will be pulling my hair out just sitting there! Sorry, but I just needed to vent!!

Re: Surgery in 1 week, just need to vent!

Is there any way you can get someone to come in and clean your mother's villa weekly for the next few months? You need time to prepare for your surgery, and you will need several weeks to heal.

Re: Surgery in 1 week, just need to vent!

We were trying to get it set up for someone to come in with the area sr aging office, but just found out that she told them that she doesn't think she needs it. I have to put a call back into them to let them know that she does need it. If I have to pay someone I will, but just to know she won't even try to help just bothers me sooooo much!

You will definitely need someone to come in and clean your mom's house while you are in recovery. I would suggest you give yourself several weeks, if not more. You need to heal right, and you can't do that cleaning the house.

Good luck.

Re: Surgery in 1 week, just need to vent!

I will tell you, after a TAH, you will NOT be up to cleaning ANYTHING for at least 4-6 weeks. That means even sweeping. You probably won't feel up to it & if you do, it will wipe you out for a day or two.

This is how I felt after mine. I thought I'd be bouncing around the house at the 4 week mark since I was in such good shape before surgery. NOT !!!!

I'm just now getting enough energy to not be sooo tired after mopping my own house & I'm over 4 months post op.

Prepare for the worst & hope for the best.

Good luck.
