Scheduled for full hysterectomy

I'm getting the full hysterectomy. I just want the pain to stop. I'm a bit worried about the emotional/hormone end of things, as I suffer from depression already and take medication for it. My Dr said I have to stop smoking to get hormones. Not enough stress...now I have to quite smoking in a month.
My Dr prescribed me vikadin,(sp?) and although it helps with the pain, I'm all loopy. My mind is racing and I can't hold a thought long enough to finish it!
Anyhow, I'd appreciate any input.
Thanks

Re: Scheduled for full hysterectomy Jan. 10th

Talk to your doctor about changing pain medications. Sometimes, you can take something else for pain that won't make you so loopy.

Regarding the emotional roller coaster with a hysterectomy and surgical menopause, every woman is different. We all wish we had crystal balls to see into our future, but alas we don't. Hopefully, you can quit smoking so that ERT/HRT is an option for you. I know that can be a difficult thing. Some women do just fine with menopause without the hormones and some women need the hormones. You just don't know until you get there.

Good luck to you.

Re: Scheduled for full hysterectomy

Dealing with constant pain is really hard. I was in the same situation of just wanting the pain to end. It made me tired and depressed to always be in pain. I'm 3 weeks post-op TLH and I feel like a new person. Good luck with everything, hope you'll be pain free soon.
