An embarrassing question

Ok, it's bad enough that I have to give myself an enema the morning of my surgery... ugh, but I have a question about the whole shaving thing. How much do they actually shave, and is it something I can do myself the night before?

Re: An embarrassing question

If your doctor has not told you to shave, don't. Your surgery can be cancelled if you shave and were not told to do so as even the tiniest of nicks could become a site for infection.

If your orders are to shave, then you should have been given specific instructions on what to do. If not, check with your doctor's nurse.

As an FYI, I was not shaved one tiny bit for my LAVH!

Re: An embarrassing question

I wouldn't shave, they'll do it after you're asleep and its just the area they need to get to. It's not a totally clean shave just very short. At least that was my experience.

Re: An embarrassing question

I was shaved after I was put out, I can remembering my first time on my feet lifting my gown and asking my husband if they shaved me, he smiled and said well not totally, they gave you a mohawk so no they don't or in my case they did not totally shave me.

Re: An embarrassing question

It's best not to shave because it can increase the risk of incisional infections. my DaVinci is Friday. I'm ready for it to be over.

Re: An embarrassing question

I just came home and they shaved just the top of me while I was asleep. It really isn't bad so if you didn't get instructed to do it, don't! Good luck and hugs to you!!!! I was terrified of the whole process but the nurses and doctors are great.
