Re: Affraid I'm losing my husband, please help

Many women I confided in before this surgery told me to be sure to have testosterone replacement as well as the other HRT to preserve my libido. I also have menopausal friends who tell me that they have pain during sex due to dryness. Talk to your Dr. about this and if he/she doesn't help you, find a new one. I wish you health, happiness and a wonderful sex life.

One thing about testosterone replacement is that you should have your levels tested to be sure you are indeed low in that hormone before supplementing with it. Lack of libido isn't always due to low testosterone. Some symptoms of too much T can be irreversiable. Such as; male pattern baldness and a deepening of the voice.

Re: Affraid I'm losing my husband, please help

Hi. Hope this isn't too late -- although my experiences have been similar to other sisters here.

I just turned 42 and had my TAH at 39. Like you I had serious pain at the scar site and absolutely no libido. On top of that, clitoral atrophy ensured that I had zero sensation. Zero.

Turned out, like another sister mentioned, that I had granulation at had to be treated multiple times for months before it resolved. Eventually the pain resolved as well, although I cannot tolerate deep penetration as before.

Second, like you, I also felt in danger of losing my husband (more my insecurity than his response) due to the clitoral atrophy and its challenges. My doc prescribed 2% testosterone (compounded) 2-3x per week. That has been a godsend. I can definitely tell if I forget to use it. There are some unpleasant side effects (facial hair), but they pale in comparison.

Hope this helps. Hang in there, and good luck.

Re: Affraid I'm losing my husband, please help

Hello ladies, I just wanted to share what I learned earlier this week. I saw a hormone specialist last week and he tested my hormone levels. All of my levels (except thyroid as I'm on synthroid monitored by endocrinologist so it was perfect) were about 1/4 to just under 1/2 the numbers below:

Estradiol; most women feel best when it is greater than 50.
Progesterone; most women feel best when it is greater
than 1.0.
Total testosterone; most women feel best when it is greater
than 40.
Free testosterone; most women feel best when it is
greater than 0.5.
DHEA-S; most women feel best when it is greater than 80.

Estradiol is great for hot flashes and sleep. Testosterone
is good for libido, moods, and energy. Progesterone is important to balance estrogen and it is good for moods.

I am awaiting a call from the pharmacy for my cream compound and DHEA tablets. This doctor was in my network so I paid a specialist co-pay. The pharmacy doesn't bill insurance so I will be submitting a claim to see if any of the cost (approx $76) can be recouped.

I don't know if this helps at all but it certainly can't hurt if to have the info that there are some options available!

Re: Affraid I'm losing my husband, please help

I am there with you ladies as well. I had my surgery at 25 and I could care less to have sex. They recently put me on HRT which makes me feel myself again but not really in the sex department. my husband doesn't really understand that I really can't control my mind and body to get on the same page for sex. It is so hard to overcome. I would reccomend talking to your dr as well. It can be hard to talk about it but worth it in the end. Good luck! Hope you get things straightened out.

Re: Affraid I'm losing my husband, please help

I have no help, but I have similar issues. I had everything taken and cannot take HRT (BRCA+) & the gene is estrogen responsive so I can't have estrogen, I'm wondering if I can take testosterone.

I have to "fake it" a lot, it sucks for me but I do it for my H. Good luck!
