Re: 2nd day post op

and

I hope your surgery went smoothly and you are resting comfortably.

You are in the right place for support that is for sure. This site is amazing!!

I did not have the same type of hysterectomy as you, but here are a few things that you may expect to happen in the early days of your recovery

Gas pains.....completely normal, take some Gas X and walk as much as you can, it works!!

Swelly Belly....this is normal swelling of the abdominal area and I'm pretty sure most women get it regardless of what type of hyster they had.

Emotional issues....It is VERY common for women to feel sad and weepy for awhile after surgery. This can happen to you whether you kept your ovaries or not. Your ovaries can go into a sort of "shock" and not work properly for a while. You may also experience other menopause symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, headaches, and insomnia. If you do experience these and they are bothersome, please make sure you contact your to discuss what can be done to help you out.

Bleeding...this is normal to some extent. Spotting is normal, but if you are bleeding heavily (like a full on period) or passing large clots, this is NOT normal and you should call your doctor as soon as possible. It is especially normal to bleed around the 3 to 5 week mark. This is when internal stitches are starting to dissolve and sometimes that causes some light bleeding... so keeping some pads on hand is a good idea for a few weeks after surgery.

That is really all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are other things you will experience that are completely normal. Never be afraid to come here and ask questions...that's what we are here for.

I'm sorry you were dealing with a health issue that led you to a hysterectomy, but I'm so glad you found us. This really is a wonderful community we have here.

in your recovery!! Sending you

Re: 2nd day post op

I am also 2nd day post op... I had a vaginal hysterectomy with the removal of my uterus only... I am ok, but I am sore and experiencing mild cramping... Maybe we can keep up with and compare progress...

Re: 2nd day post op

I feel relatively good... I am having light bleeding... I woke up every 4 hours last night like clock work, and I took my pain meds ( of course)... I have been stirring around for about 30 min and resting about 45min... Other than mild cramping I can't really tell I had a major surgery...

Re: 2nd day post op

I am getting around relatively easy, lots of rest! Did have an episode of pain lastnight but trying to stay on course to control any pain. I have had no bleeding.

Re: 2nd day post op

After writing earlier I passed my 1st clot... It has since stopped, and it back to really light pink... I of course called the doc and she said that she was not concerned unless I continuously passed clots... She said one every now and then is ok... It reminds me of the way I bled after my csection...

Re: 2nd day post op

Hang in there! Everyone has some different experiences, but you did good calling your doctor. I just awoke from a nightmare (blaming the pain mess). So I am up and not ready to go asleep quite yet.

Re: 2nd day post op

I have had a good day today... A Lil spotting here and there nothing major... I love my dr pepper ( which I know is horrible)... I have been trying to drink water bc caffine can be a bleeding culprit... She actually said some bleeding is normal... Just not constant clots... She explained that some clots get trapped in the pelvic region.... I can't stand not sweeping, mopping, and cleaning... I am a neat freak...
