totally discouraged... :(

I wanted to go to the chat room, my surgery is Jan 9... I am totally scared to death,, everytime I think about it I shake and cant breath. The Dr. have drug this out since Oct. 13.. see this doctor, do this test. 2 weeks later another doc. another test. and on and on. I have to have a bladder sling and the doctor said a tiny little mesh attached to my tail bone? Then I read the mesh is made out of Pig skin? the hysterectamy is bad enough, they want to put animal skin in my body.? I am going to die I just know it.

Re: totally discouraged... :(

Okay, deep breath. I know this is very scary, especially THIS SURGERY. Know that the doctors and nurses will take very good care of you - they do not want anything to happen to you either. They are all well trained professionals, and they will see you through this.

I do not know about the mesh you are referring to. But, there are other women on this site who have experience with this and hopefully they will respond.

Also, the pre-op chats happen about every two weeks. The next one will be on Jan 5. Maybe you can attend that one.

Post your concerns and questions. We are here to support you.

Re: totally discouraged... :(

I understand how scared you are. I was a nervous wreck for a few weeks then I decided I can be in control of my emotions. I gave myself a pep talk every single day. I know that sounds dumb, but everyone around me saw that I was falling apart. I decided that I can fall apart and have a cow over the things that I can't control or I can put on my big girl pants and look at the life that I am going to have post surgery. I have suffered over 20 years and I just kept telling myself all the positive things that are going to happen to me as a result of the surgery. Today I was supposed to start my period, and that is the best feeling in the world knowing that I am pain free.

Just focus on the positives that the advancement of medicine can provide for you. Yeah, pig skin is kinda creepy to think about, but golly, if it gives you quality of life then it will be worth it in the end. Lots of deep breaths, give yourself permission to take control of your emotions, and think about the positives. This is your gift to yourself for a better life!

Re: totally discouraged... :(

I am scared as well and totally understand.. I will be by myself for the surgery and very nervous. Mine is scheduled for the 11th. I keep telling myself " it won't be as bad as I am making it out to be. I am strong enough to make it thru this." And I'm keeping my eye on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: totally discouraged... :(

About that pig skin mesh. FYI - my dad has a pig heart valve. No joke. No mechanical parts to break, no synthetics to cause problems and no anti-rejection drugs. Before his heart valve replacement surgery, my dad researched all the options, weighed all the pros and cons of each and chose the pig parts. 13 years later, it's still going strong. It will be fine.

Re: totally discouraged... :(

SassyLass, my last thought to "run" was right before they put in my IV. If there is anything I can say to you that I wish I could have done: breathe, calm down....and KNOW you're going to make it through. It is natural to worry, especially if you're a worrywart, like I am, but it truly doesn't do us any favors. I'm one week post-op and doing so much better than I thought I would be! No one enjoys the thought of surgery but feeling better sure does sound nice and I'm already feeling better in several ways! Johndeerecrazy is right, the light is looking brighter everyday! Best wishes to you and we'll see you in post-op!

Re: totally discouraged... :(

Im sceduled for the 24th of January, Im nervous but in a way kind of can't wait, Im in so much pain now. Im literally watching my life go by. Im not an active memeber of my family and it kills me.

On Jan 11th we are scheduled for a Q&A (and consent forms) with the doc, Im bringing my husband, and have even started to think about all the questions I have and will have. I even have a few written down, this is an important thing in our lives and need to be as mentally prepared as we are emotionally.

Good luck
