I took everyones advice and packed lip balm. I have my eyeglasses, contacts, scented hand lotion to make some aromatherapy for me, lol, small shampoo and shower gel, comb/brush for hair and a little hairspray for my exit home. Oh, deodorant, a robe for those hall walks everyone talks about. Taking cell phone but hoping to be sleeping alot from good pain meds! I"m taking a magazine for preop waiting as I'm afraid of being bored and too nervous-best of luck!

My 5 musts: clean undies, thin pads, tooth brush/paste, deodorant, comb and pillow pet. Oops, that's 6 (or 7 if you count the tooth brush and paste as 2 separate items.)

Other things I took that were essentially useless: Book (couldn't concentrate to read), cell phone (most people called my room phone) Ab Binder (used once).

Wear the same clothes out that you wear in and use the hospital gowns, robes and slippers while there. With an IV and a catheter, your own PJ's won't really work and my nurses brought me a clean gown whenever I wanted one. I think I must have changed gowns 5 times in 2 1/2 days and it felt really good.

Re: Packing for TVH

The hospital had a robe for me and they already had me in the slip-proof hospital socks when I woke up. I was plenty warm between the anti-embolism stockings, slip-proof socks, the compression leggings, and the warm blankets they kept bringing. There was no thought of a shower, I really wasn't steady enough on my feet to attempt that. Lip balm is a must! I had that, too, forgot to mention it though. I always overpack...but I'd rather have it and not need it... than need it and not have it.
