six week exam - scared

got that coming up soon and i'm scared! crazy as it may seem i've never had an internal exam while i've been awake before, they've all been under general anesthetic as part of a d&c. Really not looking forward to this at all; any advice?

Re: six week exam - scared

Yep - relax, breathe, and understand in advance that the sensations you feel will be new, and therefore uncomfortable, but shouldn't be out-and-out painful. Though post-op it can hurt a little... enough to make you say "ouch!" but not enough to make you holler.

Be sure to talk to the doctor as s/he goes - if something hurts, or you have a question.

And hang up embarrassment in the dressing room with your clothes - I'm convinced these docs don't see that part of our anatomy any differently than a podiatrist sees our feet or a dentist sees teeth...

Re: six week exam - scared

I understand how you feel, 4 days after my LSH with repairs, I started bleeding badly, I went to doc that day, she said let's take a look, and grabbed a speculum, I freaked out, but to my surprise it was no problem, no aching feeling no inner pressure, now that's just my case, hopefully you too will breeze through it. Come to find out a tore a stitch from rectocele repair, needed more stool softener, I'm much better now. Cat

Re: six week exam - scared

Had six week check up today. I was totally scared. No major pain only a bit, small bit of discomfort during exam. So relieved.

Just relax. We are on the mend!

You are going to be fine! Deep Breath and relax!

My 6 week exam was no big deal. My doctor was very gentle.

Re: six week exam - scared

I too had six week check today even though not six weeks til Thursday. I'll admit it was uncomfortable and I was very tense. The doc said I needed to relax with a chuckle. Still had stitches on the cuff and he removed them. That part didn't hurt. No sex for ten more days and he wants to see me back one more time. Good luck. And I think if you do relax then it won't be as uncomfortable. I think I was just too tensed up.

Re: six week exam - scared

I went last week and it was not anything like I expected it to be. It was not painful. I told my dr's nurse to use a small speculum (which they did), he swabbed the cuff with silver nitrate because I still had some stitches. I didn't have any pain or discomfort afterwards. But like all the other ladies say, just relax, relax, relax.
