Depression/paranoia

Hi ladies. I just had a TAH on the 9th. I'm already feeling the hot flashes and mood swings. How do you deal with it? I have endo so while technically I can take HRT it's best if I don't for at least 3 months. The way I feel today I'm already worried it's going to ruin my marriage. I've battled depression for as long as I can remember. I've been doing great for the past several years, even through infertility treatments. Today all of a sudden I've gotten really sad and upset plus paranoid that my husband doesn't want me. I don't know how I can feel that way after everything he's done for me the past week. Is there anything that you've found that helps with the weepies? My Dr. recommended black cohosh but I'm not sure what it's for (hot flashes I think). I do have an antidepressant left from a while ago when I was having severe anxiety attacks. I'm thinking about calling the Dr. and seeing if it would be OK if I started taking that again.

Re: Depression/paranoia

There are supplements that help mild depression or sad moods: St. John's Wort, Valerian, fish oil, to name a few. I would research them on line thoroughly and then check with the doctor to see if you might try them one at a time. You cannot take antidepressants with any of these supplements.

Re: Depression/paranoia

Just a note of caution on St John's Wort. I tried that one when I was going thru a bout of depression after my tah/bso and it actually made my depression worse. Red Clover is a supplement that can help with moods. I did take that for awhile after my surgery.

Black Cohosh can help with hot flashes, but can take some time to start working.

I think calling your doctor and asking about an A.D. is not a bad idea if you feel you can not handle things right now.

Whatever you decide to take, do check with your doctor first.
