Hip and calf pain on estradiol patch

Hi out there, has anyone experienced hip and calf pain on the Estradiol patch? I am on a patch and where it daily since hyster on 7/12/11. It is 0.05 mg. Should I stop this? The pain is unbearable. What can I do instead of the patch? Thanks for any help.

Re: Hip and calf pain on estradiol patch

I looked this up on the internet and yes it is one of the side effects of using the patch. It states that if the side effects become unbearable or bothersome to call your doctor. This is an excerpt from the site: Estradiol Patch

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Estradiol Patch:

Bone or limb pain; breakthrough bleeding; breast tenderness; dizziness or lightheadedness; neck or back pain; nausea; skin redness/irritation at the application site; upset stomach; weight change.

I'm wondering if you may be too low in e? 0.5 is a low dosage. I get pains when my E is low.

Did the pain start suddenly? I'd be concerned about the calf pain, which can be a sign of a blood clot. If it were me, I'd remove the patch and call the doctor. If the pain is unbearable, you might want to visit the ER.

Question - Hip and calf pain on estradiol patch Re: Hip and calf pain on estradiol patch

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses. The pain has been coming on for one month. I called my doctor and she advised that she did not think that this was a side effect of the estrodiol patch I am on. I think this is odd since the box since it is a SEVER side effect. I have now removed the patch and the pain is subsiding somewhat. Question out there to you: if you have a total hysterectomy, like I did, are you using any creams? Any hints on natural products to use instead of the patch? Should I be on progesterone? Thank you everyone.

I couldn't use the patch. My skin is too dry. My Dr switched me to EvaMist. It's a transdermal spray that you spray on your forearm.

I take a compounded Prog capsule and Test cream, all are prescriptions.

What happened with your patch? Did it not stick, come off early, not absorb well? How was the transition from patch to Evamist?

The skin area under and around the patch became red, swollen and itchy. The dosage was great. The transition to the mist was not to difficult. Headache was the only thing I remember. But I'm sensitive to headaches.
